I'm starting this thread as a way for people to check if there is going to be an open water swim at second beach in Middletown RI, any given day. We do these swims from June 15 to November 15, usually on Tues and Thurs. We also sometimes do an early morning swim on the weekend, from 1st beach to 2nd beach, around Easton's Point, about 1.9 miles. Starting in June I'll be posting the plans and the reports. I usually send out emails, but this won't require an email list, and anyone who is interested will be able to check. Who knows, maybe others who swim at 2nd beach and have access will chime in and organize their own swim dates using the forum!

Daddy daycare today, so I'm in for Friday instead. I'll be there at 4:45.
5 people Friday. Great conditions. Great company. One patch of water that felt like "Whale Piss!" It was about 20 degrees warmer than the surrounding water.
I heard tell that there is a 1st to 2nd beach swim on Sunday. What time?
This past week was self perpetuating,
Only two days of swimming, though, Tues and Thursday.
Brian's off in Guam
I didn't see a post to the email list for Wednesday or Friday.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
The way this has been working is:
Tues Weds Thursday and Friday 445PM meet 5PM swim
Main lifeguard chair Sachuest Beach
We do about 1500 yards in the ocean. It rocks.
Right recently it has been great, nice and warmmmmmmm
The email list is maintained by me. (MikeGarr@usms.org)
email me to get ONIT

Tuesday report
Hey Barrett Hey Tara Hey Onne Hey Sanne Hey Jeff Hey Lori
Nice companionship today. No turtles, these guys scoot right along.
warm, low waves, hazy lazy clouds.
A little extra distance for three, (L,O,and B) as it was too nice for just the double L, and the beach doesn't close til 6PM.
mikeGarr@usms.org gets you on the list.
We swim Tues-Thursday at 5 PM if there is a quorum (two swimmers +) email the list if you're coming.
weekly report
Tuesday and Thursday we had regular swims this week. Friday was a bust with bad weather. (58 deg air temperature and drizzle). Wednesday Jim P showed up and mentioned he had a bunch of people swim with him but not our regular group.
There's been a groundswell moving towards a longer swim than our usual 1500 yards. I'm game. We need better participation.
email me if you want to swim with us.
CHEERS
Good swims this past week.
Tursday a harbinger of the fall with air temps in the 60s water slightly warmer. A play around the buoys day. The guards quit, we didn't!
Wednesday a slightly warmer deal with decent swells. The Newport Athletic Club guys showed up so I met some nice people and reacquainted with Paul S.
I gave up for Thursday but it would have been okay if we tried it. Friday was Dan F and me. Bill had to bow out for a meeting. Great double L swim. Dan took it easy on me. We were moving right along in some big waves. Fun.
Sunday we went first to second. Thought we would have more but four was plenty; Brian was back from Guam. Beautiful morning fog lifted, vistas were perfect. Barrett friend Chris gave us all a ride over to first in his double cab, which made logistics easy.
Only a few more weeks before the temps start to drop, but still plenty of good swimming in the offing.
Join us Tues Wed Thurs Friday meet at 445PM at chair number five right in front of the bathhouse. Sachuest beach, Middletown RI
Cheers.
This past week was the last with lifeguards. The rest of the season will be catch as catch can. I've made up an email list of our regular participants. No one but me seems to be using the forum, but if you'd like to try a great spot to swim, let me know.
Lanehog, good luck. Thanks for joining us.
We'll be swimming into November, Guaranteed. But since there's special requirements for that endeavor, let me know if you want to join us.
I'm even more convinced this is one of the premier ocean swimming spots after this year's regular swims. Thanks alot to all the enthusiastic newcomers: you've made it all the better.:smooch:
Today there were big winds at second beach, plenty of windsurfers and kiteboarders. Not a good mix for us swimmers, so off to the other Sachuest beach we went. Onne, Bill, Dan the force, and yours truly. Great low wave Sakonnet River swim at third beach. We'll be trying again for second beach on Friday. Water temps still quite tolerable. Hey Bill Geasey how come every swim we do becomes your best swim ever????
Lots of comments from the capped crusaders today made it even more of a blast....
