Anyone doing Lake Montclair?

Is anyone doing the Lake Montclair swim Sept. 9? I'm registered for the two mile swim (hoping just to finish; I have the distance but am verrry slooow). It would be great to meet some of you there!
  • I don't think I can get there, but I wish you a good swim! Hope you can get to the Sept. Splash!
  • Hi Sharkbait! I am doing the Montclair swim this Saturday, and so is Swimmy. We are going together. Maybe we can try to meet up with you? Not sure how we would recognize each other, but we can figure something out. Diana

Hi Diana - I'm looking forward to meeting you and Swimmy. Let's see, I can try to make myself relatively noticeable by wearing my oversize Yorktown Freedom Run 5K T-shirt before and after the swim. And I will be the last one to finish the 2 mile swim, that is, provided I finish before the 90 minutes. Getting sort of nervous, since this will be my first 2 mile swim, and although I go 4 miles in the pool, I can't seem to get past a verrry slooow 40 minute mile pace. I probably should have entered the one mile event, but oh well... Are you and Swimmy doing the one or two mile swims? Sandra
  • Hi Sandra, OK, I will look for you in your Yorktown shirt, and you can look for me in my Bonaire Ecoswim tshirt (it's white, with a logo). It will be really fun to meet you. Don't worry about the pace. The Montclair race is really good because it is a small course and you do two laps for the one-mile and four laps for the two-mile. It is also very casual. If you want to change to the one-mile, I don't think there will be a problem. But this is a good race to try something new and/or challenging, in my opinion. My hubby likes this race because he can see me the whole time. He will be there too, as well as my mother-in-law, and Swimmy of course. Swimmy is doing the one-mile swim, and I am doing both, so we will try to find you. Good luck. Get lots of rest today and eat a good dinner, and you will be fine. See you tomorrow! Diana

Hi Diana, Thanks for the encouragement. I did want to try something new and challenging, plus I have a two and a half hour to three hour drive, the long swim is later, and I'm not really an early morning person (but can be when I have to...) I don't care if I'm last, just don't want to DNF. If I take more than 90 minutes, I hope they'll let me finish the course, even without an official time. It's good to know that the race is pretty casual. Just hope I'm ready! I only swam half a mile today, ate probably too much, and took a three hour nap (which I needed because I probably won't sleep much tonight). You're brave to do both swims, but you have much more experience in open water, and at longer distances. It's great that your hubby and mother-in-law are coming to watch you swim. I'll look for you before and after the two mile swim (my Yorktown t shirt is blue, with a flag logo). I expect to get there when the one mile race is going on, so I should see you and Swimmy finish that one. Good luck to both of you! I'm really looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. Sandra

  • Swimmy and Sandra, Hope your races went well... Swimmy, good luck in Alcatraz! That sounds like a challenging swim!
  • We are getting very excited! I will tell you all about it when I get back! Swimmy :)
