Janet Evans was and is a force of nature. I've written it here before, but I believe her 800 and 1500 LCM WRs are the gold standard, yet to be beaten in a regular swimsuit. Her 800 record was finally bested by 2.12 seconds, or .1325 seconds per length. Her 1500 was bested by 9.56 seconds, or .3186 seconds per length. Both times wearing supersuits. Until someone beats her records in a conventional swimsuit, IMO Janet Evans remains the greatest women's distance swimmer ever, with performances unexcelled after more than 20 years. Which in modern swimming is an eternity and a half. BTW, guys, why don't women compete the 1500 at the Olympics? And why have the distance performances leveled off in general? Grant's 1500 LCM WR is a decade old.

4:19.39 is the qualifying time to make the OT. If she can just qualify and go to the OT, it will be great for her as a professional athlete and for the sport.

Oh joy, next year she'll be in my age group. There goes any chance of taking the #1 spot in my events. hee-hee. I think her comeback will be fun to watch. Yes and in the meantime she's making the 35-39 records even more unobtainable! Still I'm also looking forward to watching her comeback :)
  • ... I used to think I was 'safe' from being 'chicked' by Masters women roughly near my age ... One cannot be 'chicked' by Janet Evans, KPN, Laura Val, Leslie Livingston, or any of the others. One can only be BEATEN!. YouTube - ‪Excerpt of Fort 100 SCM back world record, 1:09.25‬‏ You are never safe! Beaten by the best since 2011 ...
  • Janet Evans was born August 28th, 1971 so her metric age is 40
  • I bet she'll do better than most believe she will She's a super talent Knows how to train hard & fast She's lean She's not burned out Each day's fun & exciting She's got nothing to lose & everything to gain & Has a great distance coach She'll be a force to reckon with
  • She decisively broke two world master's records - and looked good in the process. Here's a video, taken around the 650-meter mark of today's 800-meter swim: YouTube - ‪Janet Evans world record 800 free - the 650 meter mark - Fullerton June 2011‬‏ Nice to see she still has the same technique :applaud: Can't wait to see her in Omaha, if she makes the team or not, my goal is to get her autograph on the same picture that she autographed for me in 1987!!!!
