Didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one. Its been fantastic on the ASCA I & II side of things . All the coaches are a wealth of knowledge and brings their own ideas. Scott has a rolling with his jokes and "Scottism's!". Dr. G had us all hanging on every word and video of stroke analysis.....who woulda know Michael Phelps isn't actually perfect in the water?! Mel is great on the business end of things. I'm SO glad I'm attending and would recommend it to everyone, regardless of whether you coach or not. I just wish it was a week long camp and we all got to swim together, critique each other, share more war stories, and have time for some fun!!:applaud::applaud:

I enjoyed getting to see some of my old friends again. Lump, sorry I missed you. The Rehberg brother's wanted to me to say "hi" for them. For next year, I hope they will devote more pool time to the strokes. Each stroke only got 20 minutes at the end of the day, which went by too fast. One suggestion, have 2-1 1/2 hour sessions in the morning, one devoted to a long axis and short axis stroke. Then in the afternoon, have 2- 1 1/2 hour sessions devoted to the other short axis and long axis stroke. This would give people more time to have coaches work with them on mechanics. I thought Alan Tyson, the pt guy, from charlotte was the best classroom session offered. He offered tips that we could immediately use while sitting in the classroom. Overall, I thought the day was good. The socializing saturday night was better. I would give Saturday a B-. If more time was devoted to the actual strokes, it would have been an A.

To Rob Copeland and crew, Great job!:applaud: I had a fantastic time and took away a lot more than just 3 things. ElaineK it was great to meet you and chat a bit. You as nice a person as I imagined! Thanks for introducing me to Want2befish. It's always great to put a face to a Formite name. I have to agree with Wookie, the PT guys had the best presentation. I also think more water time would have been more beneficial, but the swim video was the best for me personally because I have been without a coach for so long. Great advice for my free and I know the coach critiquing my *** stroke wanted to say, "just don't" but was too professional for that and gave some tips to work.:afraid: Thanks again it was a great event!!!
  • Thanks to all the mentors, volunteers, coaches and swimmers who made this a most memorable and exhausting weekend.:bliss::bliss::bliss::bed: And thank you for your feedback. I hope we can continue SwimFesting for many years to come, and I’ll push for more water and socializing time!

Sorry we didn't get a chance to chat for longer, but there was so much to pack into a relatively short time. Hopefully we'll run into each other at another masters function at some point soon! I agree, Rob Copeland and crew put on a great event. I only went on Saturday as it would have been tough for me to fit in Sunday (and I was mainly interested in the videotaping and Dr. G's swim power testing). That being said, I enjoyed the classroom sessions as well. Will definitely be looking up Axis Dryland, and have already looked at and started employing several of Cokie Lepinski's drills. Elaine, great to see you again, and I'm sure I'll see you in a week at UGA!

  • SwimFest was fantastic! What a way to start off with Dr. G. I would have stayed for several more hours if we could have. Did get a good sunburn Sunday but it was well worth it. Lump, I am glad I didn't see any gators in that lake, but then again when I was a kid in Long Island Sound we would be swimming in areas where people had sited sharks. Just my luck I guess. Great job by all of the organizers, presenters and volunteers. Thanks for making this a success!
  • Oh I almost forgot here in Savannah we swim in the rivers which have gators in them too. We just don't look too closely.

Just saw this on the local news. I hope it wasn't the lake we were in!! :afraid: 2 Alligators Now Spotted In Fayette County Posted: 5:56 pm EDT May 25, 2011 Updated: 7:01 pm EDT May 25, 2011 FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- Fayette County is now dealing with two alligators occupying bodies of water. Channel 2’s Tom Jones first reported of an alligator in a household pond in south Fayette County Tuesday. Trappers with the Department of Natural Resources returned to the pond Wednesday to try to coax the gator out. The DNR crew wanted to euthanize the alligator. The homeowner’s granddaughter, Ashton Spivey, wants the DNR crew to stay its execution plan and do a catch-and-release. Spivey has named the alligator Oliver and created a Save Oliver Facebook page. She hopes to get enough people to like Oliver to make him so famous DNR will have to spare him. Meanwhile, 11.5 miles away in Peachtree City, Carolyn Podolski said she and a friend were on the edge of Lake Kedron when they saw what looked like a log suddenly move toward them very fast. Then the saw the log had eyes and a big snout. She guessed the gator was about 5 feet long. Leslie Sayers called police about the new gator spotting, and police thought she was calling about Oliver. Sayers said it took police a minute to realize they were now dealing with two alligators. Late Wednesday after, DNR trappers launched two boats into the pond with Oliver with hopes to catch him. They are still trying to get a better location on the second alligator spotting in Peachtree City.

Donna, did I know that you grew up in the northeast? North shore of LI or Connecticut? I learned how to swim by taking Red Cross swim lessons in the Great South Bay. No sharks, but we used to coat ourselves with Vaseline to repel jellyfish. It only marginally worked.
  • I grew up in Shelton Connecticut but we would go out on the sound sometimes to Port Jefferson and other areas just tooling around in the boat and swimming for a bit. Swam with Stratford Y, Woodbridge Aquatic Club and Darien Y while growing up there.
