Didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one.
Its been fantastic on the ASCA I & II side of things . All the coaches are a wealth of knowledge and brings their own ideas. Scott has a rolling with his jokes and "Scottism's!". Dr. G had us all hanging on every word and video of stroke analysis.....who woulda know Michael Phelps isn't actually perfect in the water?! Mel is great on the business end of things. I'm SO glad I'm attending and would recommend it to everyone, regardless of whether you coach or not.
I just wish it was a week long camp and we all got to swim together, critique each other, share more war stories, and have time for some fun!!:applaud::applaud:

Ha! I was just sitting down to start a thread, "SwimFest Rocked!" I haven't been on the forums for a couple of days, so you beat me to it!
Lump, it was great seeing you at SwimFest. I appreciated your coaching yesterday and today was a blast at the lake! Let me know how the tape-your-goggles-to-your-bald-head trick works for open water swims! :D And, same goes for the Vaseline trick. But, you wouldn't do that would you? :afraid:
Swimcat, it was great seeing you and want2befish!
A HUGE thanks go to all who made SwimFest happen so successfully. First, to Mel Goldstein and Rob Copeland for winning their bid in the first place. They deserved to win; they did an awesome job! Rob, you worked your tail off this weekend; just one more reason you deserved earning your recent award! :applaud: And, my coach, Mike Slotnick (who will never see this, because he isn't a Forumite), did a great job with his SMART swim team volunteers to assist in making yesterday's pool session run smoothly.
The coaches were wonderful throughout the weekend; very enthusiastic and giving with their expertise. Cokie, if you see this, thank you so much. You were the best! :applaud:
THANKS USMS!!!
:chug:
P.S. To 'Ganache, this :cake: is for you. (Forget the candles and put another layer or two on top!) You were a hoot today! Thanks for finding me and adding to today's fun.
To all of you who missed SwimFest, I hope you have an opportunity to go in the future.
Fantastic to hear that SwimFest 2011 was so well received again this year!
Saw some clinic photos posted on Facebook :)
I really think the SwimFest Clinic is one of the best benefits offered to USMS members looking to improve their strokes - and for masters swim coaches.
Keep spreading the word to your friends and team mates. Those who have been fortunate enough to have heard about the clinic and attended know best!
And now we have a USMS High Performance Camp started up once again for the serious racing gang. Aug. 27 - Sept. 1

Lucky for us/me, the Pacific Masters are hosting a great combination of the two at their EXCEL Weekend Clinic! June 10-12

It's never too late to learn something new - or make some technique changes. NEVER!
I had a FANTASTIC time at SwimFest. I wasn't really sure what to expect, and I wasn't disappointed. We didn't get to stay for the open water, but we really did enjoy the time we were there.
Elaine, it was great to finally meet you in person!!
Can't wait for next year!

Thanks Moody! It was great finally meeting you, too! :D
I thought Alan Tyson, the pt guy, from charlotte was the best classroom session offered. He offered tips that we could immediately use while sitting in the classroom.
Tyson is a magician and he knows swimmers and their ailments better than any PT around.
To Rob Copeland and crew, Great job!:applaud: I had a fantastic time and took away a lot more than just 3 things.
ElaineK it was great to meet you and chat a bit. You as nice a person as I imagined! Thanks for introducing me to Want2befish. It's always great to put a face to a Formite name.
I have to agree with Wookie, the PT guys had the best presentation.
I also think more water time would have been more beneficial, but the swim video was the best for me personally because I have been without a coach for so long. Great advice for my free and I know the coach critiquing my *** stroke wanted to say, "just don't" but was too professional for that and gave some tips to work.:afraid:
Thanks again it was a great event!!!
Great meeting you, too, 'Slow! Thank you!! Thanks for introducing yourself; I never would have figured it out from your photo. :D
I agree with you on the video portion of our session. I was fortunate to have Cokie Lepinski, Queen Frog (Sorry, Carol Stark!), as my coach-of-the-session, and my part-time coach, Mike, running the playback. So, Mike was able to listen in on Cokie's comments; very validating to him on his coaching skills, because he was the first person to ever coach me on breaststroke (I was previously self-taught). On my second breaststroke 25, Cokie gave me a high-five and yelled, "That's it!", for riding the glide more. She also said I had a good kick, and, later, said, "You have a beautiful breaststroke." :bliss:That made my day! (Now, if I can just go faster AND keep my stroke count down- and keep it that way for a full 200... :frustrated: )
Okay,
I need to chime back in since I wanted to comment on Day 3 which was Open Water led by Steve Munatones. I was just as intrigued as I was by Dr. G's presentation. It really humbled me as too how much information I picked up and hadn't thought about. I loved hearing about "things we need to be aware of" and what actually goes on in the high level competitions. Open water is SOOO much not just getting in and swimming across, around, etc. a body of water!! What I learned will give me plenty to think about as I'm swimming open water. Thanks to Rob Copeland and all the other volunteers and kayakers for a great clinic!:applaud:
another thing I took away, unfortunately, was a nice little sunburn!
