  • Requiring two cuts also hurts the juniors on a big time drop trajectory. One thing Katie Ledecky talked about in interview was how a year ago, she didn't even have a Trials cut for the 800 free and she couldn't believe how fast it had gone from just trying to get that cut to winning at Trials. I don't agree with having to make cuts twice either. I think making the cuts a bit faster and shortening the qualifying period to 12 or 18 months would suffice.

  • In NBC's defense, I think they were planning on covering the 100 meter run-off between Felix and Tarmoh. That's no defense. They could have easily switched gears and just aired more of the 1500. How difficult would that have been? Their entire crew and cameras was already there filming.
  • Also, Dara Torres got fourth place and missed the team. Everyone else who got interviewed made the team. Kara Lynn Joyce didn't get interviewed at all and she beat Dara Torres :( Fame over merit. But, yes, shameful. What I don't understand is why Dara (and others) insist on parading their kids on the medal stand or during an interview. It sounded like Tarmoh was emotionally spent after rounds of the 100 and 200 and knew that Felix (more endurance) would likely be her. Still, very odd to just give away a spot like that. The coin flip option was beyond ridiculous. Who would ever agree to that? Though some of the T&F stars seem to think the outcome of a race is not in their own hands. :bolt:

Kara Lynn Joyce didn't get interviewed at all and she beat Dara Torres :(Yes, Jazz, I agree, that was shameful, as well. Covering the 1500 being contested by non-superstars that don't really represent credible medal threats is probably asking too much. For crying out loud, they cover miles after miles of the Tour de France, countless hours of tedious baseball games, soccer games, etc. I don't think covering 15 minutes for one race is asking too much. And, while I agree neither of these guys is likely to challenge Sun Yang or Ryan Cochrane, the bronze is up for grabs in London. I'm more annoyed at all of the great semis that they missed in their obession to air every second Phelps swam the entire trials.I agree ... plus all of the countless re-runs of swims in Beijing. Can we all just agree to let the Cavic-Phelps race be relegated to the vaults of history?

  • For crying out loud, they cover miles after miles of the Tour de France, countless hours of tedious baseball games, soccer games, etc. I don't think covering 15 minutes for one race is asking too much. And if it's anything like past Olympics they will show more or less the entire marathon (with commercial breaks, of course) which lasts two hours. OK, the marathon is more scenic, but we're talking about a 15 minute race compared to a 125 minute race.
  • My coach, Jeremy got back last night and had some neat stories to tell us during practice this morning. Including one about Eddie Reece asking Jeremy to help Brendan Hanson with his start. Both my team mates did well. Nick finished 23rd in the 100 fly.
  • The score for the men's 1500: Replays of Gemmell Looking at Scoreboard 1 Commercial Breaks During Race ... 1? I mean, what was that? Lead change during commercial happened during '08 Trials as well. After showing the 50, they had about 25 minutes to show a ±15 minute race and what did they actually show?...maybe 4 minutes? They didn't start coverage until it was almost half over, showed about 100 before the interview with Dara, went to about a 4 minute commercial break (during which the whole race changed), then showed the final 200. Horrible coverage.
