Possibly he just missed his taper, tho that doesn't explain his very good 400 IM. Maybe losing at the end of the relay just rattled his confidence enough to slow him down a little.
Other than the 400 IM, he was faster a year ago at Wolds, right? (I don't remember if he did 200 back, but he was def faster in the 200 IM and free.)
He was 1:44.44 at Worlds in the 200 free and he still has the world record in the 200 IM after last night. However, he was at world record pace for the for first 300 of the 400 IM. Although it was a personal best for him, maybe he did miss his taper. 5 Medals is still pretty impressive. 6 Top 4 paces.
The men's 400 medley relay prelims played out very similarly to how they did in Shanghai last year, except that the logjam number was 3:34 today rather than 3:36 then.

Amazingly, the list of countries that just missed the top 8 is exactly the same as last year! Hungary jumped way up to take Poland's spot in the top 8, and Poland dropped down. Other than that, 2012 is basically a faster repeat of 2011.
P.S. That Guy keeps typing spoilers.
Comparing finishing 2nd (Lochte in the 4x100) or 3rd (Hansen in the 100 br). That is the question? see link to NPR:...
I would expect that 20 years later, the silver medalists are quite happy with the performance, but those that finished 4th are still really really annoyed. -just a thought.
Very cool ! How did that guy come up with these stats that :bolt:quick?
Thanx for sharing guy :applaud:
I saved lots of time today by having my SwimBot go to practice for me. No one at the pool noticed the difference. :badday:
