Wow. I counted 3 kicks before the arms were engaged and then another kick during the pulldown. They basically start dolphin kicking before they hit the water. Interesting interpretation of the rule.
Gotta love the interpretation that being allowed to do one during the arm pull=not placing a limit on how many BEFORE the arm pull.
GAH!!!
That is surprising. Some people like to broadcast what they are doing in the interwebs, and depending on the time they do, it might coincide with something you might be interested in watching. :2cents:
I've just been crazy busy this week and haven't had time to watch much.
OK, anybody who says they saw that coming is probably lying! Manaudou made the French team as a dark horse and now won the gold medal as a dark horse out of lane 7. But 21.34 is a great time, no doubt about that.
Silver medal for Cullen Jones! :applaud:
Grr. I missed the race because of stupid Firefox/NBC/internet fails. :bitching:
So happy for Cullen Jones though!
i put her 50 splits for the 800 into the attached spreadsheet (acutally developed this spreadsheet for 1650 splits and tweaked it for the 800 - don't pay attention to the splits/analysis beyond 800). Her splits for 100-200-400-500 are shown, and at the bottom of these colums the average splits for each distance are shown in blue. Her cumualtive times and the variances from average are on the right side of the spreadsheet with spits under average in black and the splits above average in red. She didn't back end this race at all and took the first 250 out faster than average, then dropped off her average pace for the balance of the race until the final 50m.
The doping questions have started... swimnews.com/.../9694
Hate to say it and I guess it's schadenfreude, but I think Lochte deserved to get knocked down a peg or two. He came into these Games with just a little too much bluster.
Overall, it was a touch schedule to pull off successfully. Well, at least, he got 2 more golds. I don't think that he needed to be knocked down. In swimming, sometimes it is not about who put the more work in. It just might be more about who is the freshest to put in the best performance. If he trains for Rio, he will have to tweak some things in his training. He could be too bulked up for swimming. Also, he have to drop an event or two. Or, Florida might to tweak their program.

Remember, USA has to follow the rules while other countries don't. He was kicking in the water.
Never know what you might find on the intertubes. Swimswam shared this link.
Thanks for that! In the slow-mo you could really see what a comparatively long and fast underwater the french gold medalist had. Very cool!
