  • Total domination by Allison Schmitt! :applaud: P.S. the planet of the apes was earth all along Schmitt rocked & she's been seriously undercovered by NBCs Missy Ryan & Mikey show Hersey swam a great 2 fly & is sitting pretty for finals too bad for phelps in the 2 fly, so close, he's a remarkable swimmer, when he took a break, some swimmers were training hard to catch him
  • P.S. the planet of the apes was earth all alongI hope you are keeping track, so we can have a match the spoiler to the movie, once Olympics swimming is over.
  • Excellent work by our 4x200 relay, both in prelims and finals. Ricky "Haters Gonna Hate" Berens split 1:45.27. In the 200 *** semis, I was worried about Weltz at the 150 mark, but then he passed 3 guys on the last 50 to make the final. So, uh, good job, and nice contrails. P.S. the village is part of a modern nature reserve

  • too bad for phelps in the 2 fly, so close, he's a remarkable swimmer, when he took a break, some swimmers were training hard to catch him I think that's right. People might say it is because he isn't in as good as shape as before because his times are slower. While that is probably true in the 400 IM, in the 200 fly if you compare his time today in jammers to his previous times in leggings or full body suit, I'm not convinced he is really any slower. But everyone else kept getting better -- they had someone to chase -- while Phelps didn't. Still it was a heartbreaking swim, he had it won (until he didn't). Has anyone noticed how many Olympic champions and WR-holders are competing in all the events? In virtually all cases they are not competing for gold and usually not even for podium spots. Once you reach the top, most lose a little of the drive that got them there. So in that respect, Phelps is doing pretty darn well to still be in contention in his events.

WOW did the usa gymnastic team really fall :badday:apart & good for G B to earn a team silver medal !:applaud: REALLY the japanese get a instant replay & the judges change the medal award ???????? Don't get me started on that replay decision. So in slow motion he appears to go into a handstand and gets credit for the move yet in full speed he clearly flies off the apparatus after losing control. The irony was the Japan team coming out for the medal ceremony waving and smiling like the crowd appreciated it...I guess the crowd let them know their opinion when they got announced. Can't let that taint a super result for GB regardless. 4th would have been incredible based on history. Heart went out to the US guys...especially the kid from the Bronx...he looked distraught.

I don't think Phelps is gonna retire now. Oh, sure, he may take a year off, may even tell himself he's retiring, but he won't be. He'll be back.
  • All of the stars were in line for Phelps in Bejing. He could just as easily gotten silver in the 100 fly as gold. And if it weren't for the incredible swim by Jason Lezak, he would have had silver in the 400 free relay. He was so pumped for Bejing!! After those Games, what else did he have to prove? Motivation is a big thing for him. After he reached all of the lofty goals he set, what else was there for him to do? I think his competitive desire is still burning but ONLY at 1500 degrees rather than 2000 degrees that it burned in Bejing. I had the opportunity to briefly talk with Michael at the Golden Goggles awards when they were in Los Angeles in '09. I said to him "When you are done with all this, there is always Masters Swimming". He looked me straight in the eye and said, "When I'm done, I'm done." What he has done to elevate our sport is worth all of the gold medals he has won. Thank you Michael Phelps for what you have done and will continue to do for swimming!!!!!!
