2012 Olympics: Swimming

All of the stars were in line for Phelps in Bejing. He could just as easily gotten silver in the 100 fly as gold. And if it weren't for the incredible swim by Jason Lezak, he would have had silver in the 400 free relay. He was so pumped for Bejing!! After those Games, what else did he have to prove? Motivation is a big thing for him. After he reached all of the lofty goals he set, what else was there for him to do? I think his competitive desire is still burning but ONLY at 1500 degrees rather than 2000 degrees that it burned in Bejing. I had the opportunity to briefly talk with Michael at the Golden Goggles awards when they were in Los Angeles in '09. I said to him "When you are done with all this, there is always Masters Swimming". He looked me straight in the eye and said, "When I'm done, I'm done." What he has done to elevate our sport is worth all of the gold medals he has won. Thank you Michael Phelps for what you have done and will continue to do for swimming!!!!!!
