That was a great turnaround for Missy Franklin tonight with the 200 Free semi into the 100 Back final. Good for her!! :applaud:
She's awesome. As my wife commented it seems like there have been a few rather cocky athletes at these Olympics (not to say they've all been). Missy comes off like a breath of fresh air. She's one grounded individual.
In college it was suggested we warm down 1000y at a minimum after a 50 or 100 swim especially if we had further races the same day. Given the order of magnitude scale higher that olympians are on versus lowly normal college swimmers... 1200 seems low to me.
Where are you supposed to warm down at a college meet? Most of the places don't have the facilities available to have multiple pool space, and the 5 minute breaks here and there aren't enough.
How cool is Missy ?? !! She is so much fun to watch & be around.
Lochte looked really dejected. :badday:
Phelps looks revived & a little coy in his response of how he will do in the remaining races.:):anim_coffee:
WOW did the usa gymnastic team really fall :badday:apart & good for G B to earn a team silver medal !:applaud:
REALLY the japanese get a instant replay & the judges change the medal award ????????
does anyone else feel like these olympics - mens swimming mostly - is a bit "empty"? I just don't feel the excitement like i did in 2008.
I can't speak for anyone else, but in 2008 (and 2004) the LC Nationals were going on at the same time as Olympic swimming. Nothing like being around a group of swim fanatics to add to the excitement.
Speaking of which, WTF is with the mail divers' suits? Is there some sort of fabric shortage in that sport??? Have they never heard of jammers?
Why in the world would a diver wear a jammer? To me that would look ridiculous. Swimmers only wear jammers due to speed. I'll bet you virtually none of the male swimmers at the Olympics would be caught dead in a jammer during a training session. Divers, OTOH, aren't concerned about speed and they certainly don't want to wear something that's going to inhibit their flexibility in any way.
Its breaststroke, they're all mutants.
In the picture, Miutatyte appears to be achieving a 90 degree "external" rotation of her left foot by rotating her left leg internally 270 degrees. Not that I could do it anyway, but is she really doing that? Should she be?
Interesting that neither she nor Soni seem to have their thighs perpendicular to the bottom of the pool.

It is clearly taken with a "fisheye" lens leading to distortion.

Well, perhaps not jammers, but I didn't tune into the broadcast to look at plumbers' cracks. And, if jammers help swimmers get through the water more efficiently, I suspect they might help divers enter with less splash as well.
