masters practice near disney (Orlando)?

looking for masters swim practice and a pool with a low chlorine system to workout in that is close to Disney World - staying at the boardwalk hotel on a business trip this week (Feb 13 to 17). thank you.
  • If you have a car and (even better) are a Y-member, this is a decent pool near Disney www.swimmersguide.com/.../Detail.cfm. I've only done a meet there and some of the out-of-the-pool decor needs an upgrade, but this might be a good bet. :rant3:I usually find whenever I am forced to go to some conference in Disney that once I get sucked into the Disney black hole, it's hard to get out. If I had more spare time on my hands, I'd start a petition to ban corporate conferences from Orlando and Disney; I find it quite possibly the worst place to have a business conference. Every conference I've gone to there (too many to count) seems to have event planners who love to do outdoor lunches where all the conference participants are forced to sweat and squint (suits on, sunglasses back in the hotel room). On top of that, all the non-conference participants are having fun enjoying the park while we get stuck in yet another non-descript conference facility.

Also, Look into Lucky's Lake Swim.
  • the best swimming work out in Orlando is at Typhoon Lagoon Surf pool if you're going to go more than 2 days, get a 1 year disney waterpark pass or just use your Disney Park Hopper pass here's your work out when they are launching big waves in the surf pool: 1) swim out in the surf pool as far as you can then 2) tread water next to the ropes, wait for a wave, & talk with the regulars, 3) you'll hear a big FOOMP & see a MASSIVE wall of water wave rushing towards you 4) sprint away from it 5) when the wave catches you, STOP swimming, stay streamlined, & Start BODY SURFING! then 6) tumble out of the wave just as you cross the red don't-surf-past-here line 7) Waves launch every 90 seconds you have about 70 seconds get back to the next to the rope before they launch the next wave faster than anyone SWIM VARIOUS STROKES (keep repeating till the good waves stop coming then swim in, check if your stuff is still where you left it, rest in the shade or eat then GET BACK OUT THERE by the rope just before they switch back to the good waves there'll be a schedule) see if you can catch a wave, by just + flutter kicking or + dolphin kicking or + SWIMMING right armed or + Swimming left armed or + swimming on your back. wear a high SPF T shirt & apply plenty of sunblock wear goggles Here's a few "workouts" I did there Wed Mar 23rd 2010 Fri Mar 26th 2010 sun mar 28 2010 looking for masters swim practice and a pool with a low chlorine system to workout in that is close to Disney World - staying at the boardwalk hotel on a business trip this week (Feb 13 to 17). thank you.

I get to take the kids there in in early June, since I have a late June swim meet and am still scrambling to get in shape I will be heading to that Y pool as that is all I have found so far. going to have to Taxi it though unfortunately.
  • Also, Look into Lucky's Lake Swim. THIS is the best way to workout on an Orlando vacation bar none. It's truly a fun experience and will make you feel part of a very cool OW swimming community. You will get everything from seniors to teens swimming this on a daily basis. Plus you get a patch and literally get to write your name on Dr. Meisenheimer's wall. How cool is that? Each length of the lake is about 500 meters, I think, so you can figure out how many crossings you want to accomplish. I think that Lucky himself usually goes for two "laps" (2000K). http://www.luckyslakeswim.com/ en.wikipedia.org/.../Lucky’s_Lake_Swim Highly recommended! It's not far from Universal and only about 10-15 minutes from Disneyworld.

There is another Master's group at the National Training Center in Clermont. It's about 30-45 min from Disney. They have sessions M,W,F from 6-7:30 am and Tues/Thurs from 6-7 pm.
  • hey eagle, Brilliant set Ande - I've done this at TL many times :) When you time that wave just right, its quite a rush. Course you have to pull out before you collide with the waders! Thanks that's all I wanna do when I'm in orlando I wouldn't waste any time at a regular pool you get in enough swimming to "keep the feel" which is all you need till you get back home when I first surfed TL years ago I'd surf all the way to shore but NOW there really is a red don't-surf-past-here line about 175ish feet from the rope and you MUST tumble out of waves. If you surf past it, you get a warning but if you do it again the GUARDS will kick you out of the park and maybe even BAN you from coming back not worth it plus you can hurt and get hurt colliding into waders
  • Last time we were at Disney World, we stayed at the Saratoga Springs resort. The main pool there is around 40 meters long, and at 8 am each day there is no one in it, so I was able to get in some long course-esque workouts. No backstroke though - the pool is irregularly shaped and of course there are no backstroke flags.
