The next Canadian Masters Swimming Championships will be held 5/20/2011 to 5/23/2011 in Montreal. I believe it will be SCM.
Unfortunately the Masters Swimming Canada site has very little information on the meet as yet. I would like to correspond with someone who knows more details, including venue, which events are on which dates, event order, etc.
Any ideas? Thanks!

105.1.6 Pool Certification
A) Record applications and Top 10 submissions shall not be accepted unless certification of course length accompanies them or is on file with USMS or USA Swimming.
Is there a searchable list to see what's verified and what's not verified?
Assuming they agree to measure the pool. What if they don't?
And do you now if FINA requires measurements? I had heard they did not.
I suppose you have to use your considerable charm and powers of persuasion to get them to do it. :) I think they'll do it; even USA-S officials have been very accommodating when I ask for this.
Require for what, Top Ten or records? I don't know FINA's requirements, but I know that our record application form serves for both, USMS and FINA records.
Do measurements still matter in a fixed, non-bulkheaded pool? For example, swimming in a long course pool outside the US? I'm toying with swimming a meet in Canada long course at some point this year so I don't have to try to race in the brutal Arizona summer!
Pools must be certified once by measuring in every lane; they don't need to be re-certified unless there is some sort of structural modification. This is all described on the pool measurement document that Fortress linked to earlier, so just print that out -- both sides! -- and give that to the facilities manager or meet director and you should be okay.
If a pool has a movable bulkhead, its placement is verified by measuring in the end lanes and one middle lane. Those measurements do not have to be sent to Walt unless a record was broken; the Top Ten recorder keeps them on file in case there is some question.

Sort of; here is a link to an Excel document that has all the certified DOMESTIC pools. Note that there are three worksheets, one for each type of pool (SCY, SCM, LCM).
www.usms.org/.../poollengthdb.xls
It was last updated Dec 17, so it is pretty current. We have plans to put this in a database and make it filterable/searchable, but it hasn't happened yet.
These are the measurements that Walt knows about, generally for record validation. Top Ten Recorders of LMSCs are tasked with keeping measurements on file for all their pools. They may have measurements on file that they haven't (yet) sent to Walt, so if you don't see a pool on the list, check with the host LMSC's Top Ten recorder.
For international pools I just send an email to Walt. Maybe if he gets tired of answering he'll send me a similar file for those pools and I'll upload it too... :)

The pool I'm considering shouldn't be a problem (Victoria, '94 Commonwealth Games site), but if I go, I'll bring along the forms.
Note that the Victoria Commonwealth Games pool does have a movable bulkhead. It is moved to the middle for two scm pools or slid down to the end for lcm. I am also planning on going to that meet. Thanks for the note. I didn't realize that. I had assumed that it was 50M x 25M so that they'd run short course meets width-wise. I'm still not sure where I'm going to be that weekend, but I'm intrigued by the idea of swimming an LCM meet. From the pictures I've seen, I'm also assuming it's still a fast, deep pool?
From the USMS Rule Book, Article 202.2:
www.usms.org/.../part2.pdf
202.2 Recognized Events
"...Times achieved by USMS members at events sanctioned by a FINA member federation shall be considered for USMS national records and Top 10 times without formal application for recognition if the USMS member(s) register for the meet as USMS members. It is the responsibility of the swimmer to submit times obtained in recognized events with complete documentation to the appropriate LSMC Top 10 recorder and the Records and Tabulation Committee chair."
Chris, in the above case, do pool measurements have to be submitted to USMS?

Walt Reid -- who certifies records for both USMS and FINA -- maintains a list of (international) measured pools and I've just sent him an email to verify that this pool is on it. But if there is a movable bulkhead, its placement will have to be verified with measurements after each session. Those measurements must be submitted with any record applications, and your Top Ten person will (or should) want to see them. S/he will want a link to the official results as well.
Walt just replied to my email question and said the pool has already been measured once. So all you need it to verify bulkhead placement.

Some officials are accomodating but some aren't. Some USA-S officials looks like you are speaking a foreign language when you talk about pool measurements.
Email the meet director before the meet to make sure that they have a steel tape or the other tape(drawing a blank) for post session measurements. Who knows, maybe the Canadian officials will be accommodating.
Fort, all you need to do is bring poutine daily to the Montreal officials and not only will you get cooperation but a free pass from evilstroke disqualification as well.
Ack, really? Disgusting. Something you would find in Pittsburgh. :bolt:
