To appreciate the magnitude of what Geek accomplished today, consider this: when he beat me in the 500 free back in January of 2007 he went 5:32.07. Today he took his 1650 out in 5:20.03. I don't believe he has peaked yet.
He didn't get there in time and just missed his heat. :(
How do you "not get there in time??" :badday: It's the first event of the meet. Get there...warmup...be ready to swim. :2cents:
He probably forgot that we're on Pacific time zone over here.
No wait...his body should be even more awake than ours.
Needs a Drive Faster Faster tip from the hotel. :D

Not true. I saw Ande on deck as heat one was starting, so not sure why he missed it. Other forumites I saw today include Chris Stevenson, Jeff Strahota and Skip Thompson.
Well, I had a golden opportunity today for a win with a strong swim in the 400 IM since Roque Santos was a no show, but I couldn't do it. Just not feeling rested so far. Maybe things will improve over the weekend. I'm disappointed, but that's the way it goes sometimes. I've just got to get prepared for each race and do the best I can.

Ande was at the pool on time. But he told me he spent too much time changing and picking up his registration bag. He didn't get back to the blocks on time for his heat.
Sorry you're not feeling fast, Kirk.
I haven't checked results yet. Did Kip/Spock beat Ande in the 50 fly?

My :2cents::2cents::2cents::2cents: is bet on the fact that the 50 Fly was an hour or so afterward. :) Not a good excuse IMO.
If you pay the money to sign up for the event, train for it, you might as well hop in a swim it too.

I really don't think so. He told me he was "bummed and pissed.". Plus, he had already swum a 23.9 50 fly at Zones, which was number 2 in the event rankings.

If you pay the money to sign up for the event, train for it, you might as well hop in a swim it too.If that's the case, then that makes sense to me to skip it too. If doing a race prior to a 50 focus event takes 0.1 out of your 50, then it's significant and I'd scratch it without a thought- the 4IM was designated as his 6th event.
Why does it matter to any of us what Ande's reason(s) for missing the event are? If he purposefully missed it to save up for an event or if it was by accident, who are we to judge him? This is his meet, he can swim or not swim the events he wants too.
Agree. And I was about to add that thought to my last post. No one should make judgments about a personal decision to scratch a race. I know I've scratched a tace at Nationals before.
Ande didn't mention to me that he intended to skip the IM, so he probably just miscalculated when he needed to get to the blocks. The meet is definitely moving at a good clip. I thought I was there early enough today and still was a little rushed getting to the blocks for my heat.
I just noticed in the results Chris Stevenson broke his National record in the 200 back by .01. Nice job. And how about that swim by Garrett McCaffrey?
