My :2cents::2cents::2cents::2cents: is bet on the fact that the 50 Fly was an hour or so afterward. :) Not a good excuse IMO.
If you pay the money to sign up for the event, train for it, you might as well hop in a swim it too.If that's the case, then that makes sense to me to skip it too. If doing a race prior to a 50 focus event takes 0.1 out of your 50, then it's significant and I'd scratch it without a thought- the 4IM was designated as his 6th event.
