How many events do you do at your state meet?

In Illinois we are allowed to do 11 event over the state time frame with one distance event on thur/fri with 5 events each day on sat & sun. What does your state allow & what do you enter?
  • In Michigan you can swim up to 7 individual events and 4 relays over a 2.5 day meet. You can swim both distance events (1000 Free 1650 Free) but cannot do them on the same day. We offer the the 400 IM and 1000 Free twice during the meet but swimmers can only swim the event once during the meet.
  • In OR we can swim 6 events total and up to 5/day,plus relays.Typically I enter the 3 BRs and then see what else I want to swim that won't interfere with them.

Same here with events like NW Zones and PNA Champs. Here's how it usually shakes out, depending on event order: Definites: 200 fly, 400 IM Probablies: 100 fly, 100/200 back Maybes: 50 fly, 50 back, 100/200 IM, 200 ***, 200/400 free Doubtfuls: sprint free, sprint *** NFW: distance free I'm not afraid of distance free events, I just don't want to swim them anymore. :) But if I were to enter one it would probably be the 800 LCM free... :worms:

I swim USAS state meet in my state. There I do 2 events (50/100 free) since I dont have cuts for any other ones anymore :)
  • I am asking because our state meet is running longer each year because of the amount of entries per day. Last year on Sat. I did not do the 400 I M till 6:20 in the eve. warm ups began at 7:00 A M.:bed: That is a long day:cane: with the 1st event next morning starting at 7:30 A M !

It'll keep you tough. :agree: Although it's not a "state" meet, Pacific championship meets allow 7 total individual events, 5 max on any one day. All three meets are three days in length.

I'd prolly have gotten bored well before that and just went home. Swim meets keep my attention but not for 11 hours! It seems like your state needs to impose harder cutoff times if THAT many people make it to state. An 11 hour meet is borderline rediculous IMO. The longest USAS state prelims session i ever attended was 4 hours long in comparison. *EDIT* thought about it more... i retract my "borderline rediculous" claim. I decided that I feel an 11 hour meet is WAY into the rediculous category.
  • I would love to do 2 less events at state . 4 times over the last 10 years , I have been the top point winner in my age group.
  • Someone has an idea to put the 50 & 100 events at the end of the meet to keep swimmers around. Although that would not make the meet any shouter.
  • That'd prolly keep me from entering these meets. I usually go through the order of events and check when my events are. If it looks like i'm going to have to sit there for 3-4 hours after warmup, i don't even bother entering that meet. I don't exactly have any masters meets to reference though since all I know are USAS meets. Are the masters meets all this long? The length of Masters Meets is entirely dependent on the number of participants. Most big meets have a time line so you have a pretty good idea of how long they last.Unlike USAS meets, Masters meets are required to have a warmup/warmdown area available at all times. This means if my events are at the end of a session I get to sleep in(:banana:) and still get a warmup.
