www.swimthesuck10mile.com/.../About.html This is a 10 mile swim through the mountain area of southeast tn. This will be the first year for this swim. The leaves will be changing color, during Oct, so this will be a great time to be in this part of the country(plus no humidity)

Wookiee, I like your avatar (or lack thereof...) much better than the last one! ;) Since you asked me to bring it back, I did...esp. since you font and color are really annoying.
  • I think I'm going. My friend & I have been training for about 5 weeks, getting in longer swims on Saturdays, and totaling well over 20,000 for the week. I don't care if I win, I just want to say I did it. I've swum one measly OW in my life - a one mile + 50yd dash (and I won it) so I have no experience, but how hard can it be? Just pick your head up or do *** stroke to check out where you are! I swam in a local river that was 72 degrees on Labor Day - 3.5 miles w/current of .5-1 mph, and it only took 35-40mins - and it was shallow with grass driving me crazy - if I can do this, the rest of you can!! (BTW, I'm not that speedy - I hold 1:10-1:15's on 100's on a 1:20 interval).
  • Forgot about the Lake Travis swim!! what to do, what to do???? Um, Tennessee River? Because as a first-year event, it won't be overrun? (But yes, we need a real calendar of OW events.) Bump...bump....bump.... just a reminder that this swim is about a month away. Who is planning on doing this one? I promise, the natives(ie southeast tn finest rednecks) won't be playin banjos as ya'll swim down the river. Quite a lot of my friends are going without me! OTOH, I play banjo! Foggy Mountain Breakdown! Any good bluegrass events down by you that weekend? :) Maybe I could ride shotgun! Will there be bears?

As for bears, don't worry about em. The natives will again take care of any baer sigthin.
  • Since you asked me to bring it back, I did...esp. since you font and color are really annoying. I shouldn't have mentioned it, because now I have to look at that stupid gun. :bitching: By the way, you're in the minority when it comes to expressing your annoyance about my choice of font and color. I've even received compliments from some of the forumites about it! If this annoys you, I would hate to think what it must be like to live with you. :afraid: Cheer up, Wookiee; there are more important things in life to get annoyed at besides the appearance of my posts.
  • It's my opinion about your font/color. Don't tell me to cheer up. I can be cranky if I want to be. You should try reading your own posts. I don't care what I am in expressing my opinion about your posts, the color/font hurt the eyes. Thank goodness I don't have to live near you too. OK, be cranky. I don't "try" to read my own posts; I DO read them. I proofread my own posts and blue is soothing to MY eyes; it's the color of water, afterall. All I am saying is that it's too bad you let something like this make you so cranky. Life is too short to feel annoyed by the little things...

I'll be there. Looking forward to visiting the area, sleeping on a retired river steamboat, swimming the "Suck", eating and drinking in the Pot House and meeting a Wookiee. It looks like a few of us are signed up for LRLS in NYC next Saturday. Say hello. I encourage any slower swimmers to sign up so I can have some company in the back of the pack.
  • You don't know me well enough to decide if I am cranky. Expressing my dislike for your font/color because it is annoying to the eyes, doesn't make one cranky. It does help me know immediately which posts to skip right over. Consider that a hidden benefit of the comic blue MS. I'll buy you a shaver if you send photos of you swimming in the middle of a river.
