1. You open the door to the pool and get that first whiff of chlorine and think to yourself, "I love the smell of chlorine in the morning!"
2. Your new issue of Swimmer Magazine arrives :bliss: and you immediately sit down and read it cover to cover (including the ads!). But, then, the realization sets in that now you have to wait two months until the NEXT issue arrives.
3. You find yourself counting strokes instead of sheep to fall asleep at night. Then, just when you're about to fall asleep, instead of your leg twitching a little bit, it does a full whip kick :afraid:, and you ride the glide to slumberland... :bed:
Now it's your turn...

I have more swim suits hanging in my closet than I do dresses. :)
My college room-mate once asked me "how can you consider yourself an athlete if you only have a couple of sports bras?" I then referred her to my swim suit drawer which she could barely open because there were so many stuffed in there and falling out. She borrowed my sports bras all the time, but never touched the swim suits! Gotta draw the line somewhere!
You run into a teammate of the opposite sex somewhere in town, and you say "I almost didn't recognize you with your clothes on", and your spouse doesn't even bat an eyelash.
I get a lot of: "I'm used to seeing you wet." My boyfriend is a runner and people tell him that they are used to seeing him sweaty. Haha.
As far as chlorine smell, I love opening the dishwasher right after it runs (or even while its running) because it reminds me of home :)

Me too! (and I thought it was just me.....) Love that warm chlorine feeling
... you get laid off from your part-time job (that you loved, but, thankfully, didn't need ) and the first thing you think of when you hear the news is, "Well, now I can spend that time catching up on my swimming books and watching swimming videos on YouTube!" :D
P.S. It makes me :) every time this thread is revived!
Cheers!
:chug:
Those were good ones, Swim! :applaud:
I will add another one, since I started this thread ( :D ):
...you keep breaking through barriers you thought your (operated on) shoulder could never handle: 5,400 yd double, followed by 23 military push ups in one minute, during a 2 hour gym session, the following day. :bliss:And, the best part? No pain!
...you plan a European river cruise for after Nationals, because you can't stand the thought of missing out on the fun, even though you will probably come in close to last in your age group.
...the first things you think about bringing on your river cruise is your suit, cap, and goggles, just in case you can find a pool along the way. And, if not? Your stretch cords, so you can "swim" out on deck, as the boat cruises down the Rhine.
you are planning your class schedule for the fall and are looking for ways to make it fit around your practice schedule. :)
when you don't swim you feel like it was a lousy day or a Sunday (my day off).
when you are irritated that your local pool is closed on Sunday because you wanted to make up a practice.
when you get your swim outlet package and it is like Christmas!
You never know what's going to happen when you start a thread on the USMS forums- and who is going to find it. Broadcast journalist, Lynn Sherr, who I used to watch on ABC's news show, "20/20", found this thread and contacted me. She is a USMS swimming enthusiast and just completed writing her first book about the sport, "SWIM: Why We Love the Water".
While writing her book, she wanted to know if she could use some of the Top Ten "You Know You're Hooked on Swimming When..." from this thread. And, she asked if I thought the other contributers wouldn't mind being contacted, as well.
We have kept in touch since then and now I am pleased to pass the word on that her book will be coming out on April 3. (But, my copy is on the way now! :applaud: )
Lynn's book sounds terrific, so I thought I would pass on the link to the book on Amazon, as well as her Facebook page:

Lynn, best wishes for much success with your book and with your swimming! :cheerleader:
