Great meeting you, too, Alison! Congrats. on your PB's! :applaud:
I'm at home now; my 200 breaststroke isn't until 3:50. I have heat intolerance issues and the last couple of days in the Aquatic Center has taken a lot out of me. My sleep hasn't been great the past couple of days, so I decided to rest in my cool house this morning and arrive this afternoon. I plan on getting there in time to warm up, then watch the 50 free showdown. Then, I'm hoping for a PB in my event!
I just watched today's video. I saw Allen get led away from the pool after his event, so I figured they were up to something. Later, he told me he had been interviewed. Cool! The videos have been exciting and inspiring. :applaud:
I hope to see you later today, Alison!
Sorry I missed you today. I see you took 2 sec off your ***. Way to go! :applaud::applaud::applaud: I left early to have a belated Mother's Day Celebration with my family. But I did take 3 sec off my best ever 500 time this morning. Can't wait to see you again soon and see you make some huge progress as I know you will.
Thanks everyone for the complimentary comments. I obviously hit my taper.
With the exception if some glitches re timing system and some starter errors, I thought the meet was well run and I liked the facility, especially how accessible it was for my wife who is disabled, and the killer smoothies at the
H2O cafe. However, I did have considerable trouble judging the bulkhead turns and had to wait till I was sure I was close enough.
I don't know why you guys are whining about the warmup lanes. There was lots of room in the 65+ lane. Couldn't do too much pace work though.
Rich
There have been lots and lots of amazing swims so far at this competition. I look at the ages of some of these swimmers and the times they are producing- it's just awe inspiring.
This relay needs to be recognized:
Event 32 Men 18+ 200 Yard Freestyle Relay
2 AMS 'A' 1:25.60 1:20.21N
1) Pascale, Joesph R M26 2) Scheren, Steve A M23
3) Hughey, Richard L M47 4) Hughey, Austin L M19
21.17 42.32 (21.15)
1:02.33 (20.01) 1:20.21 (17.88)
It fell through the radar at Swimming World probably because the relay came in second. However, if the times and splits are correct, it's noteworthy beyond breaking the national record.
Astonishingly, at 47, Richard Hughey's 20.0 could have easily competed with the best 30-35 years ago. For perspective, Andy Coan won the NCAA D1 50 free with a 20.2 in 1978.
And even more remarkable is 19 yr old Austin Healey's 17.88 split- absolutely crushing Cesar Cielo's all time performance of 18.47 from 2008.
I would say Dennis Baker didn't have the piano on his back. 55+ 58+ That isn't too bad of a difference.
When it gets to be above 4+ seconds..then the various size pianos start dropping.

Thanks, Alison! I DIED after 100yds. and felt like my legs and arms were heavy weights. When I don't sleep well, I can really feel it in the pool. I KNOW I can do better than I did today, because I have done 200's in practice and felt like I still had something left in the tank. Today I didn't, but at least I beat my seed time. :)
YOU had a fantastic meet, Alison, getting PB's left and right! :applaud::applaud::applaud: You ROCK! You are truly an inspiration! :agree:
I'm sorry I didn't get to see you today. It sounds like you were long gone before I ever arrived at the pool. I hope you had fun with your family! And, I hope to see you again at another meet; perhaps next year!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cheerleader:
Elaine, great to meet you today. Will you be back tomorrow? Today I had 2 more PB's - 100 free (took 1.3 sec off) and was the lead off in the free relay and took .7 sec off. Can't ask for much more than that! Hope to see you tomorrow. I have the 500 and the relay and then I'm done.
Great meeting you, too, Alison! Congrats. on your PB's! :applaud:

Allen Stark is interviewed in today's video. Oh yeah, a couple guys named Nick and Cullen, too. Not sure who the heck they are. :)
These videos are great, by the way. Nice job by Rob and Rowdy and whoever else is working behind the scenes!
Congrats to Rich Abrahams!
I saw Rich turned 65. I thought, "man, that is gettin OLD...he's just going to have to admit it: he's old." 65, yeah (I go on about it as if it were decades away; I'm 58). So, anyway, in this meet with lots of fast swims I think his 49.42 in the 100 free has GOT to rank as, maybe, the best swim of the meet. Then he does a 24.94 in the 50 fly after a 56.32 in the 100 fly, all national records....easily! He's got the 50 free tomorrow. Wonder how that'll go? I am impressed. To perform the way he has performed year after year, at such a high level...well, this guy must be one crazy dude. Amazing swims, just amazing. Kudos to Richard Abrahams.
I think Sheri Hart's 25.97 in the 50 back (at age 39) is right up there too. Impressive Colorado swimmers!
