I graduated college in 1999, just before tech suits took over the world. I have never worn anything other than an old school Speedo (and a wetsuit for open water.)
A friend of mine has pretty much convinced me to try it out at Nationals this weekend since it is my first and last chance. He gave me his suit to wear, so it's free.
Any thoughts? Are most of you wearing tech suits, or going old school?
Thanks!

Huh?
Exactly, we aren't USS swimmers after all, we are USMS swimmers and 100% within their rules.
Glenn @ GoSwim.tv posted this nice little sendoff drill for those of us going to Atlanta and wearing a tech suit... of the floaty kind I imagine :)
YouTube- Turns - Tech Suit Turns. The last hurrah!
I'd say... listen to the tips as Glenn talks through the video clip, but don't watch the swimmers!
Those bobbing heads and streamlines are kinda painful to see over and over :(
Hope I meet Bill in a warm-up lane!
My best time was in $25 speedo shorts.
Either my tech suit was a lousy brand or I'm not fast enough yet for it to make a difference what suit I wear. Nevertheless, I'll be wearing a fastskin jammer I bought yesterday at the meet this weekend.
No matter what you say Mollie... I still hope I meet Bill in a warm-up lane.
As a coach recommending a video to watch, I had to say something about the less than perfect technique.
Ahelee
Whose technique is perfect? No one. Everyone person that swims at the elite level, age group, masters, has flaws in their stroke.
It's day three of the meet, and I now realize how ridiculous my original question was. 99.9% of the swimmers here are wearing tech suits.
The 'free' suit I had was too long, so I went old school That's right, a tiny Speedo (actually TYR). It looks like I will go through life without experiencing the rush of a tech suit. Don't get me wrong, I plan to keep wearing a wetsuit in open water. Definitely don't like the cold.
A few other thoughts.
1) There is some seriously fast swimming here!
2) I don't think it has anything to do with 'the suits'. Next year will be even faster!
3) If you have never come to this meet, you have to check it out. Truly incredible atmosphere.
4) Swimming in the 1996 Olympic pool will be a memory that I cherish forever.
the jury is still out on how fast people(who wore the tech suits at Altanta) will swim next year.
I would rather swim in the 1996 Olympic pool in LCM. Sorry, swimming at a Olympic pool in yards doesn't have the same panache. That is my :2cents:.
sorry to hear about your "free suit" issues. Yeah, you really have to be in one of those suits to compete there. I talked to quite a few people at local meets who didn't go to Nationals because of the suits. My reasons were more financial and May 20 is just way too late to be having yards meets.
I will always cherish my 2009 Nationals at Indy. It was a real treat. :applaud:
