Hey All, I live in the Springfield, Ma area and I've been jonsing for some outdoor swimming. Does anyone know of any decent outdoor lap pools within reasonable driving distance? 50 m would be preferable, but 25 y or 25 m would be fine.

Jeremy...not sure where you are in MA but Brookfield CT has a 50M outdoor and there will be masters groups at some point over the summer.
  • Don't you have a state pool in Springfield? We've got two in Worcester and another one in Clinton (which is a couple of towns away). They're all 25yd though. And they don't open until late June. I wish there were more outdoor swimming options around here....
  • Hi there, I live in Amherst & swim open water. In Amherst, the Mill River pools are outdoor, and open in the summer. Lovely. Incidently, we have an AMAZING master's team up here. Incredible coaching and great workouts. Many of us swim open water and practice together during the summer. Anything specific you are training for?
  • Antone interested in Brookfield Ct outdoor 50m pool should call the YMCA. The pool is open in the AM. Great to watch the sun come up while swimming.

hey guys, thanks for the info. i usually swim in a pretty good pool, but it's indoors and sometimes i just like to have the sun over head. i don't need it every day, but on occasion it would be great to get into a good pool or join a master's team for an outdoor swim. there are a handful of outdoor pools in this part, but most of them are rather crappy and they won't open for at least a month. for the brookfield and mill river pools, are those open yet? i would love to get a good outdoor swim in in the next week or two.

Simsbury Farms in West Simsbury, CT (One town away from MA) 25 Yard Lap Pool. Located on Old Farms Rd. I think its $55 for residents, $65 or so for nonresidents if you purchase season membership (June-Aug/Sept) before a certain date. They also have day passes. I don't think the pool opens until mid June. There is also Mills Pond Complex in Canton/Collinsville, CT (Next to Simsbury/Granby) on East Hill Road I believe. 50 meter lap pool. Not really sure on the membership information or when it opens. I would imagine mid june too. Also in the same area, if you can settle with indoor pool there is the YMCA of Farmington Valley in Granby, CT. Its a nice, clean facility but fairly expensive- $64/month is what I'm paying.
  • I believe there are 2 outdoor pools in Windsor, CT but I have never swam in them so I couldn't say whether they are a good place to go or not but some info (when they open, directions, schedules) on them can be found here if you are interested: www.townofwindsorct.com/.../index.htm The High School also has an outdoor pool, or at least it did when I went there . . . not sure why it is not listed.
