Hey, I would just like some tips on our strokes for the Breaststroke and the Butterfly. Our big meet is coming up and two weeks and we would like to know something else besides our coaches tips who are probably going frantic with anxiety. Breaststroke: The second closest lane with the Black/Blue "NM" cap. YouTube- 100 *** stroke 1-8-10 Butterfly: Again, the second closest lane. And better video capture this time *rolls eyes* YouTube- BA: 100 Butterfly Thanks.
  • Re: BR.On the start your streamline is good, but you are way too deep. You are also way deep on each turn(2nd turn you were so deep you were probably not legal in terms of your head not breaking the surface before the 2nd pull insweep.)I really like your timing,I think it and your pull are your strong suits. You pull a little further back than I like(I like the elbows to stay in front of the shoulders,) but your pull seems to work for you so I wouldn't necessarily try to change it. Aside from the pullout the other thing to work on is your kick.It is often really good, but especially as you tire you don't get your feet turned out well and really lose power. This may be a matter of concentration or conditioning but you can work on it. Good luck!!
  • Some think deep is good for BR , it still takes time to come up .

If your big meet is 2 weeks away you should just focus (in practice) about doing the things your coach has told you all season. Now is not the time to make big changes in your technique in the middle of the pool. You want your swimming to be automatic at your meet so you can just "go" instead of thinking hard. You will swim faster if you're on automatic. Plus, changing up your stroke will use muscles in a different way and they may not have the conditioning you need. Some visualization exercises may help - rehearse your races in your mind from start to finish. It should be about taper time for you so be sure to follow coach instructions about getting plenty of rest and not doing extra workouts on your own.

I tend to agree with allen on your feet getting turned out. You have a good kick, but to have a great kick you need to turn your feet out and truly snap everything at the same time giving you a greater thrust. Also, and just my opinion, you raise up in the water quite a bit (looking at your water-line). Try going through some drills that will keep your body lower in the water (side-breathing, tennis ball under the chin, etc). However, since you are two weeks away from the meet, I would more concentrate on the kick and timing of the "snap" than your body position (that is the harder thing to correct). Also, a little later on down the road you may want to alter your pull a bit; it looks like (from the angle of the camera) that you are holding on to the water a little too much. You want to get the thrust from the pull and go get some more.

So you're a male (sorry for asking, I know next to nothing about these tech suits, never used them and since I just got back to competition in 2009, I haven't seen many of them neither). How old are you? How long have you been swimming? What's your pb over 50m? What's your pb over 100m? What's your best time over 25m under water dolphin kick? Your splits over this 100bf were 36.45/42.45 for 1:18.9 Em I right?

It's two different kids. Note the plurals in the original post: "our strokes" and "we would like to know".

True that, now I understand. 14 strokes per 25m wasn't a typical distance per stroke at butterfly for a young man.
