I need some input from freestyle lap or competitive swimmers

ok so first can you tell me ur best 100 free time in yards or meters short course. secondly, what time do you hold on about 10x100 frees at cruising pace (a little faster than warm up pace but not much), on an interval of around 2:00 (plenty of rest). on the 100s u should be feeling good, no pain. for example, my best 100 free time in short course yards is 59 seconds, and i hold 1:34's on 100 frees on 2:00 in a 25 meter pool. thanks again
  • I think you are getting some people quoting best average for their 10x100's not "a little over cruise". For me "a little of cruise" is 1:20-1:25's, but I could probably squeak out 1:12-1:15's for best average on 2:00.

Yeah, I think the definition of cruise is going to throw this whole thing out of whack. I think of my cruise as being around 1:32 per hundred for a set on a base interval of 1:45 per hundred. If I did them on 2:00 I would naturally swim them faster/slightly aneorbocially and come in between 1:20 - 1:25 (otherwise I would just be loafing). So the better swimmers would have a base interval of 1:30, 1:15, etc. Using just my cruise and race time (93, 63) and two other data points that I thought answered the question similarly, I get y = .974x - 25.17. NotsoFast, I gave you credit for a 1:15, I wouldn't be surprised if you could do even better with a dive and a race. I can't break 1:10 in practice but my 100 time is 1:03.

I have done 10x100y free @1:30 (holding 1:20-1:24) and have done 10x100@1:25 barely making intervals. Did some warmups swimming 1000y splitting 1:30s. Best 100y free off the blocks at the time was 1:09.high . If I did 10x100 Free @ 3:00 I could hold about 1:12 (push start) but that was lactate tolerance, not cruising. I don't have lifetime best times nor current times for 10x100@2:00 nor a race pace 100, just where I swam as a 37-year-old.

Is that the case? Anybody out there cruising at 1:35 who can swim 100 yards in 57 seconds? I swim this set regularly and have only just recently started to be able to cruise it at about 1:33 to 1:35. I haven't been competing, so I don't know what my current 100 yard time is, but I am SURE that I could not go under a minute at this point. However, this thread is making me think it's time for me to start racing so I can find out what I can do. I've been chicken up to now.

I think the formula works for me, but the only correction is that I need to consider 10x100 as the best average, which I guess I should be able to make on 1.01 in yards no problem. from the formula we get 48.4 Here are my recent performances: my best SCM 53.80 (three weeks ago) converts to 0:48.20 in SCY (I never swam yards competitively before) Now you just need to figure such formula for all strokes/all races (50, 100...) and you will be a geniuos  all what you EVER need to do to know you personal bests is to cruise 10x100 on 2min :D
