I am getting over the flu (gastroenteritis). This is my third day. My appetite is not 100% yet, and I still have a slight headache, but I am night and day better than Monday (Day 1).
Anyway, there is a timed 5K and 10K swim this Saturday that I can swim, but I am not sure that's the best thing to do right now. My last workout was 4 days ago. I will take today off and maybe workout tomorrow.

Today was my first workout since the flu. It was only a week out of the water, but I could definitely feel the tired arms during my set of 100s. I swam 2300 yards today. I'll get a morning swim in tomorrow.
I definitely do not feel ready to swim a 5K this weekend. Perhaps after two weeks.
I saw a study recently which indicated that exercising won't slow your recovery, but I doubt that you will feel ready for a 5K by the weekend.

I have the damn flu again. I am so ticked. I have the 1-hour postal next Saturday. I missed today's workout, I will more than likely miss Saturday morning's. That gives me a week.
Will I be able to put my best foot forward by next Saturday (9 days after the flu started)? I fear I already know the answer.
I blame my children for this. I never used to get sick until kids. You take the good, you take the bad...

Hey, maybe you're right. I might not have the flu, but just a cold. I just figured anytime you have the chills, shakes, fever, and intestinal issues, that that is the flu. I checked my symptoms online and I might just have a cold. I still feel like hell, but at least I can give it a name.

last year i swam the hour about 2 weeks after i had an ASD repair. it wasn't pretty, but i'm glad i did it...... my high school coach had 2 things he would always say (that i can remember)
1. swim it off champ
2. if it were easy; smart people would do it

My point was, if it is something treatable by tamiflu, and you catch it early, you can cut the illness time in half by getting on medication. At this point it might be too late.
