YouTube - 50m Free Carlisle 16/5/09I swam 2 massive P.B.s at a meet last weekend. Went 25.38 in 50m SCM Free (from 26.03) and 56.38(26.78) in 100m SCM Free (from 58.75) :applaud: The following video is of my 50 swim and I would appreciate some constructive critisism please. (Lane 4) My start and underwater was good (5sdk) went 13 strokes out, 17 strokes back. Only 1sdk on my turn (and I was actually thinking "oh no, what will Ande think of that!?) Breathed 1 out 2 back. I still feel my stroke is slow. I have really been trying to increase my turnover, working on the straight arm catch we are all talking about now. www.youtube.com/watch I look forward to your comments.

Nice job. Try to overlap your hands for a streamlined entry off start.

One more note regarding your sdk. Make sure you are good at sdk before you get too hung up on how many you are taking. I can't tell from the video but it may be that you are actually faster getting up and going rather than staying down and sdk'ing. To effectively use a sdk in a 50 you better be really fast at it. Otherwise a couple until you start to lose your speed then up and swimming. Lots of the worlds best sprinters don't hang out underwater dolphin kicking. Some don't dolphin kick at all and just flutter kick.

It appears to me that you are doing a track start, You are right, I was confusing his hand with his foot. ha! Still slow off the block, though...

Great swim, very powerful stroke. Besides working on the turn, you should do more sprints at the training, because your stroke was kinda fading at the last 10-15m.

I think the swim was excellent. I do not think you were slow off the blocks. I clicked play/pause several times to watch the start and your hands entered the water before the swimmer on your left. Between 14 and 15 secs into the video you can see that you are a bit flat in the air and your entry in the water could probably be a bit cleaner (look at the splash from the feet). Your hands could probably come together a bit sooner with one hand over the other. I agree that leaning back might be less than optimum. But that was a fine swim and you should be happy with it.

I've been working on increasing my turnover for a couple of months. Just need to keep incorporating plenty of 100% work into practise and nailing those fast arms. And the starts - I just need to get the blocks out once a week and spend some time experimenting with different take offs. Thanks for all your comments:D
