Where to swim in Dublin Ireland

I'll be there at least from July 23-26 (maybe a bit longer) and again around Aug 3 for a day or two. There appears to be a 50m pool by the Clonarf DART station, but I don't think it's open to the public. Any other places with 25m or 25y pools that are open to the public and near DART or Louas lines or otherwise accessible from the city center via public transit? And if I want to swim in the Irish Sea, where can I go?

I was hoping to actually correspond with a swimmer who had actually swam while in Dublin. Something Google can't give you.

Sarge, I was in Dublin a couple of weeks ago. The National Aquatic Centre looks like a good place to check out. I understand it takes about 30 minutes via public bus from Dublin city center. If you have the time, it's probably worth it. Unfortunately I didn't make it, so I just swam at my hotel in a very inadequate pool. www.nationalaquaticcentre.ie/
  • I was there in October for the marathon and the only pool I saw was at the Westwood Club in Clontarf. I didn't actually swim there, but did see the pool and it's beautiful! Here's the web site for the gym, maybe they could do some sort of trial membership. There's also a list of swimming links on the pool page of the web site. westwood.hosting365.ie/index.php Let us know what you find out, I'm headed back again next October for the marathon again and would love to hear what you learn about possible pools to swim in! Sarge, Swimming isn't as big in Ireland as it is here, so you might not have anyone from Ireland at all see your post. www.swimireland.ie/.../8-4 I would start there, and start sending emails. Your open water desire is probably more easily addressed than finding a pool to train at. If you find anything interesting, or experience anything interesting, please post it.

Terenure College Swimming Pool, Glenalbyn Swimming Club, and King's Hospital (club) are other places you can try.
  • I was there 10 years ago but there was a masters team that practiced at a club right down the street from Jury's hotel. I can't for the life remember the name of it but bring a swim cap (assuming you are a man) as they are required for all swimmers it seems in many European countries.

Dollymount Beach on the North side is great, on the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) train line, near Howth where you can eat fresh-off-the-boat seafood; Killiney is fairly far South but also on the DART line and a beautiful beach. Here's the DART link: www.dublin.ie/.../dart.htm The water will be chilly!
