And Scott Thacker from FSU is one of the local products I've been following! 52.79 is a pretty impressive br leg!
Magruder has some big shoes to fill. He's got a long way to go to break team or conference or Big 12 champ records!!!
... Seven teams under 1:20 in the 200 FR...including DUKE, of all teams? One of the coaches at practice today said there were about 40 men who split 20.0 or better in relays. (I can't imagine how wavy that pool was!)
I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around these times.
let's just say the pool is set up with double lane ropes, and they were fully tightened, but you wouldn't know it watching the 50 free or the relays! and i'll add that there wasn't a dry timer on deck after 3 heats of the 50 and 2 of the 200 FR... :)
and to bring the thread back on topic, :woot: for freshman leah gingrich who won the 500 free! (gotta give a little love to alums from my old age group team!)
I haven't been actively following the sport for all that long, but I'm even having a hard time keeping up with how many people are going this fast.
I do remember a time when only one or two men could go under 10.00 for the 100 m dash, now it doesn't seem very uncommon. It's almost more rare to see somebody in finals go slower than 10.00
Bernardino is still the coach. He is from Potomac Falls High School in Sterling, VA.

While McLean's time is certainly stellar, I was also impressed with the depth of Bernadino's distance crew: 4 guys under 4:18 and three of them are sophomores. It'll be interesting to see how they stack up in the mile.
Ooooh, a tie in the 50 free!!!
1 David Walters Texas-ST 19.47 19.27pA 18.5

1 Jimmy Feigen Texas-ST 19.24 19.27pA 18.5

Yeah, won by a distance guy and a freshmen. Not too bad.
Rob: Great split, but didn't I see Noah go a 19.8 from a flat start in finals? That would be awesome! Was it a PB?
And more from the ACC tonight:
1st - Georgia Tech 1:17.84 D1-B ACC record 40
1) Sousa, Mauricio SR 2) Plummer, Nigel FR
3) Copeland, Noah SR 4) Robberson, Garrett SO
19.76 39.36 (19.60)
58.95 (19.59) 1:17.84 (18.89)
:banana::banana::cheerleader::cheerleader:
It must be nice being a distance guy who can go 19.27 for the 50 free!!!
My guess is that Dave hasn't started his taper yet either. What a great start he had. Jeez.
I don't know if Feign already had automatic, but the only people from UT that should be tapered for this meet would people people who don't have automatic ncaa cuts, which are HAF this year, so it is probably a lot more than normal.
Also, my bad on calling David Walters a distance guy.
He is a 100, 200fr guy, but he is on floswimming training with the distance group with Kris Kubik joking he is going to be swimming the mile at NCAAs.
ACCs
Matt McLean: 14:35.12 in the mile. Top four finishers all made the A-cut.
Kudos to Noah Copeland who medaled again, this time in the 100 free
1 Robison, Scot SO Virginia 42.94 43.14 D1-B 20

3 Copeland, Noah SR Georgia Tech 43.58 43.33 D1-B 16

UVa has a commanding lead overall; UNC has snuck by Ga Tech into third, up 34 pts going into the final relays.
Though I naturally don't like that Virginia is winning, what I do like is that they are doing it with a strong distance corp (they went 1-2 in the mile, and took 4 of the top 5 places in the 500) rather than going with the conventional wisdom that tends to devalue distance guys in college, saying you need to win with sprinters (their sprinters aren't shabby either, but not really their forte).
