Just curious how many of you take naps. Personally, I love to take long naps whenever I can. On nights I don't swim I usually take a two hour nap when I get home from work. On days when I work from home I'll usually nap if I've got at least an hour of free time before I have to leave for the pool. This does cause me to miss workouts on occasion when I don't feel like getting up! I also like to take two hour naps in the afternoon on weekends when possible, even though I usually get eight hours of sleep or more on the weekend. As you might have guessed, I don't have any children!
I know some people rarely if ever nap and others prefer much shorter naps. How about you?

I started getting visits from the "nap monster" about the time I hit 50.
My eyes just don't want to stay open and my motivation and productivity plunge. Weekends, I will indulge and sleep for 4 hours, which totally screws up my ability to keep a normal schedule, compounding problems. It's most common when I am going short on sleep to make morning practices or even to get to work on time. Usually it hits either 1pm Saturdays or 3pm other days, about 2 hours after a meal.
My neurosurgeon encouraged me to nap but I don't think he had the 4-hour kind in mind. Mid-afternoon fatigue is typical for his patients and I even had verbage in my return-to-work statements to accommodate it.
I think most of my NM visiting now is just getting run ragged and sleep deprived, and having it accummulate by the end of the week.

Your neurosurgeon is giving you sleep advice?
I suffer from chronic headaches and if I nap in the wrong position, I will wake up with a bad headache more often than not. So I don't nap on purpose. If I feel sluggish, I will take some B6 and perk right up.
My dad has narcolepsy so napping any where, any time is not a problem for him even in the water, I'd bet (he's a swimmer, too)
Man, same phenomenon here: I hate the tv on at night but it's required for napping.
I'm the opposite.
Tv during nap time distracts me, whereas tv at bedtime puts me to sleep.

Dang! Is that guy a local phenomenon, or can he make the rounds like the tooth fairy? I'm 51 and I wouldn't mind being sand-bagged now and again!
I never seem to slow down (i.e. sit or lie down) long enough to allow the nap to happen. I had to stop taking coffee after noon just to be able to drop off effectively around 10:00 PM.
Telecast benadryl may be the best contribution to the lexicon so far in 2009!
I still like Fading Barnacle.
As for naps, on the very few occasions when I've had the ability to nap right after a hard workout, it definitely was a decadent pleasure. That pretty much never happens though. I barely have time to swim or sleep in the first place, let alone do extra of either.
If I could nap, I probably would do it once or twice a week and target the 45 minute to 1 hour range.
