Real improvement over the old logo. I particularly like that we are now referring to ourselves as U.S. Masters Swimming rather than USMS. If we are trying to attract new members and we are all on occasion walking billboards with meet t-shirts, who knows what USMS means besides those who are already members. I have any number of meet t-shirts in which neither the graphics or text give any indication that it is actually from a swimming event. Kudos to the group who picked the name change and the design.
Many times, companies will also design their TEXT to be trademarked - (IBM with its lines through the letters, Dell with the sideways E, Exxon with the X's connected below each other.) Doing something like that would also make the text our own, too, but for now it is not.
RNovitske,
This is a good idea. I've looked at the style sheet. Yes, i can separate the lettering from the visual, make it vertical or horizontal format, there's a black and white version and a light on dark version, all the basics you'd expect to find. But I want to play with it more than that. I want to bend it twist it stretch it, play with a whole range of colors, but I still want it to be recognizably the US masters logo. It is hard to do it with this design that is made up of a generic swimmer, a three-line wave that looks both like Obama's logo and apparently usa triathlon's logo and uses a helvetica typeface, which is about as generic as typefaces get. We need something unique, something that would allow a lot more freedom of play and still be identifiable.
Dave....how does the color red not scream U.S.? Last time I checked, the colors are red, white and blue. Those are the same colors in the new logo...aren't they?

that was snark..... lost on the humorless. (red being the color of communism)
those of us who don't capitalize don't lol either.
USMS = US Marshals Service, for about the last 220 years. Masters Swimming? Never heard of it.
At least that is how most people react. As a former US Marshal, I've got it covered both ways, but count me in as a big fan of US Masters Swimming. :anim_coffee:
Just curious. I don't remember the old logo. Can anyone show me a pic?:)
And we would have loved to save the money, although we believe it was well spent. The answer is very simple. We do not know what is available to us from the membership and we don't make a habit of begging for help. We do know that there are many professionals and artists and all sorts of people out there, but they do not join USMS to do more work. If they want to volunteer their services, we welcome the help. Right now, there is no way for us to gather that information except in arrears, like on this thread.
Perhaps we should have made a contest out of the process?
Mike -
The contest, or just a call for volunteers, is a great idea. Give them a time limit to respond and then if no one jumps in, take it out of house.
As an aside, I'm not sure who "we" refers to, but there was a time when USMS was pretty much volunteers, period, as were/are many of the LMSC's and local team organizations.
