Hi! The 2008 Colonies Zone SCM Championships are going to be at Rutgers in Piscataway, NJ December 5-7. Entry form: www1.recreation.rutgers.edu/.../2008_USMS_Holiday_Classic_Swim_Meet_Entry.pdf
  • The order should be 800 free on Friday, 400 free SAt afternoon and 1500 on Sunday. Spread them out a bit. Why do meet directors around here come up with their order of events?! This is what we use in the NW and very few complaints. www.northwestzone.org/NWZoneOrderofevents.pdf That would be a great but we are fortunate to get the 800 and 1500 on different days. Heck, they didn't even have the 1500 at LCM Zones.

Have to chime in here, even though I am usually a "lurker". I'm very, very disappointed in the event order this year. I know you can't please all of the people all of the time (as there were posters above that loved the order), but that 1500 at the start of Saturday is very, very funky. Saturday is a tough day if you're a freestyler (100/200/1500), and it leaves virtually nothing for us "longer-lovin'" swimmers on Sunday, so it looks like I am forced into going down on Friday night. I need to stop my whining right there since I live in NJ (40 min from Rutgers), but really wanted my 400 back on Sunday AM like last year. See everyone at the meet - LauraAswim

What I also do not understand is why you have the 400/800 on Friday and then the 1500 first thing Sat morn?:dunno: Only crazy people like imspoiled will swim both the 800 & 1500:groovy: Even I'm not crazy enough to do the 800 at night followed by an early a.m. 1500. A minimum of 24 hours recovery is required! Actually the order of events makes it easier this year (for me). No need to make the Firday night distance commute and spend money on a hotel room. I can go up on Saturday, swim the long and a few shorts and go the heck home! :bliss: Anyone want to skip the relays and head to Fudruckers for burgers & shakes?

And BTW, if you opt not to go to RU and need a well run meet (AquaFit Masters) in a fast facility (Goodwill Games pool) before the end of the year: www.metroswim.org/.../112308SCMmeetEntry.pdf

Honestly, it seems like the order sucks for everyone. 50 free + 100 fly back-to-back? 200 free + 200 back? The 400 after the 800? (Yeah, let's get as many people as possible to stay late.) The 400 on the distance day anyway? Just a mess. Agreed. The order of events is a pooch screw. I don't think it really matters what your favorite events are, unless you're a one-stroke swimmer. :eeew:

  • Chris, Be wimpy in a different way: skip the 800 and swim the 400 on Friday night. You'll be more fresh for the remainder of the meet. Plus, there's a 4:08 national record out there that needs to be broken I'd love to do that. Unfortunately because of work I cannot leave Richmond early enough on Friday to be able to swim it (a bunch of us are driving up). I'm not sure I could go a 4:08. Mostly I just wanted to swim the event. (And I bet Erik Hochstein will crush 4:08 anyway, if he swims it.) BTW some Richmond swimmers from your era may be there. Dave Holland for sure, Evan Davis is possible. I was trying to get Will Fitzhugh to go, but no dice so far. Todd Bassett can't b/c his daughter is swimming a meet (Tom Dolan) the same weekend. (All still swim in masters practices, although Will maybe only about once a week.) Oh, and Mark Kutz -- who coaches Dave, Evan, Will and me -- had some good things to say about you in your age-group days.
  • What about butterfly/breaststrokers? 200 fly immediately followed by 100 br; then, the next day, 100 fly immediately followed by 50 br with the 200 br only a few events before. I'm definitely going, but I guess I'll only be doing breaststroke. I don't think I could do a 200 fly and then a 100 *** back to back and do my best. I guess what bothers me just a little bit is that in both cases it is the same: fly before (back or ***). It would have been nice to have fly first on one day, and then back/*** first the next. I'm just happy they are doing it, and Rutgers is a good pool. No bids yet for SCM Colonies Zones 2009 so I don't want to be too strident in criticizing anyone. :)
  • Warren, I'm heading up, you can too :) I wish the 400 and 800 weren't on the same day. I don't see me being able to do both well so I guess I have to pick :(
