I am involved in masters wim team afternoons but coach is mostly devoted to large group of hs swimmers etc-which is at the same time our group is practicing. for most part we (not many people show up everyday) are on our own. Then there is another club swim at 5:30am definitely no other groups-more coach attention. SDhould i go with the morning session? or should i give another week and see? thanks Rob
  • If you can keep up with the hs swimmers, see if your coach will let you train with them. Otherwise, swim in the morning.

i suppose that depends on what you want out of a practice. if you are looking to correct your strokes and develop an interactive relationship with your coach, then you should move your time. if you are looking for a convenient time to swim and are pretty self-driven so long as you have a 3x5 index card with a workout on it, then stay where you are. --Sean

  • I think you should talk to the coach either way. I assume you pay some type of monthly fee to be in the masters program on your team - that fee is also supposed to cover a coach actually coaching you! Too many teams that include both a USA swim and a USMS team leave their maters swimmers hanging. I swim for a club that is masters only, and the practices are geared more towards fitness swimming - but the coaches are generally very hands on with demonstating correct technique and giving advice (sometimes they end up in the water with us!).
  • Personally, I'm a morning swimmer so I say go for the one that will give you more coaches attention and get in a good morning workout.

Told him what you are looking for in a swim practice? For your sake and that of those you work out with, I’d suggest discussing your concerns with the coach and if the coach isn’t willing or able to meet your needs then find one who will. You may find out that the coach can and will help.
