  • Hi all. Still "live" from Portland. My flight leaves in 5 hours :( Allen, sorry I missed chatting with you. Sorry about your DQ. That sucks! Floyd, Jazz and Paul S, Heather, Michelle- nice to meet you. I had the pleasure (?) of zipping Paul's Blue70. What a suit!! Watching Phil on the deck was scary. I was glad to hear he was okay and in his hotel by 5 last night. Great swims by all!! I enjoyed cheering and taking pictures of most of THT. Stud, thanks for the shout out. Dropping 27 sec was an awesome way to start the meet. In all, I had 5 individual events and 5 Personal bests. With relays, 9 medals to take home tonight. Except for a nasty migraine all day Sat, the meet couldn't have gone any better for me. I hope you all enjoyed the salmon I served on Friday in hospitality. :) I think the meet was one of the best run ones I've ben to ever. On time or ahead of the schedule and so smooth. BD and Dennis did an awesome job as well as all the OMS helpers and volunteers.

I thought you had to swim the same stroke for the entirety of a freestyle race. Apparently that thought was not well founded.
  • Alison, sorry I didn't see you.I didn't see many people,as I was in the front lobby of the swim center. It was the only air conditioned area.I asked one of the officials if I could stay there and he said "sure, but don't tell too many people as it is a work area."
  • My 200 fly was this morning... another guy in my heat DNF so I hope everyone was looking at him when the piano fell on me at 175 meters. I haven't done a piano swim since I was 18. My arms were barely getting out of the water at the finish. The 200 fly is a brutal event, especially LCM. I had to opt out this meet because it was right before the 100 back, but usually I swim it. It is the only event I do where there are times when I seriously doubt my ability to finish the race! Paul Carter is obviously an amazing swimmer but, even though he set a national record, this race had to hurt! Event 36 Men 50-54 200 LC Meter Butterfly ================================================================== World: W 2:15.29 1/19/2008 HUGO BREGMAN, NED NATL: N 2:21.40 7/25/2004 SCOTT LAUTMAN Name Age Team Seed Finals ================================================================== 1 Carter, Paul V 51 CAST 2:15.00 2:18.57N 29.25 1:03.10 (33.85) 1:39.34 (36.24) 2:18.57 (39.23) I spoke to Mark Gill just after, and he mourned the fact that he was not announcing that race when it occurred. I sure hope I don't have a piano race when Mark has the microphone. Everyone at nationals this year was treated to 83-year-old Doug Strong swimming the 200 fly. He took something like 20 minutes to complete the race...and was promptly DQ'd (underwater recovery). Man that's rough; couldn't they have stopped him after one lap if they were going to DQ him?

In general, good job with the online results. But I'm disappointed to be going to bed without the men's medley relay and final club scoring results.

Near the entrance to the locker rooms? I went there often to fill up my water bottle. Coldest water at the pool.
  • Near the entrance to the locker rooms Checking out the guys in their suits coming out of the warm up pool....

That reminds me of nationals in Tempe '03. The locker room was (and is) the only air-conditioned area around. I set up my chair in the locker room and got some looks, but by the end of the meet, it was packed with people sitting, trying not to notice the horror around them--old people trying to fit their shriveled parts into suits several sizes too small. I wasn't supposed to tell but I think Paul Smith was in there just to "compare apples." :wiggle:
