Congrats (S)he-Man!

(S)he-Man was the top female finisher at the 25K championship. Congrats! "The winning time was 5:39.09 by Richard Kramer, 42, of Illinois Masters. The first female to complete the race was Kristina Ulveling, 35, of Georgia Masters, who swam the 25K in 6:25.25" www.usms.org/features.php

She, After swimming a 25K and having them tell you at the end you still had another lap, you had every right to not be "lady like" at the end. Congrats again

1500 = dead arm? meters or yards? (scy or lcm) i ask because if this is more likely to occur during scy, it might have something to do with your walls (streamline cutting circulation). kristina took feedings every 15 min (i don't swim 1500 anything in 15 min). this is a good strategy to keep hydrated and energized and could break up a longer swim into bits unlikely to produce said undesirable effect. of course, anything less than 10k is typically done sans nutrition.

Thank you David and Syd. David, I did not have lat burn. I've been told I'm to work more on swimming with my lats (it's very stupid not to use them). But other parts of my arms DID hurt! I've switched strokes to use the lats more and it take a while to get used too but it's not hard to get...you'll feel a power surge I think too.

I've switched strokes to use the lats more and it take a while to get used too but it's not hard to get...you'll feel a power surge I think too. Thanks Stud! When I was told this I did try and change my stroke to use my lats more; however, what I noticed was that my shoulders started to hurt. I guess I'm doing it incorrectly and I also reverted back to my usual stroke as it scared me that my shoulders were hurting almost immediately. I most likely need to get several coaches to look at my stroke. One of my main coaches was against changing my stroke but I did not push the issue. I'll be sure to ask again. Linda, yes! I can laugh about that now! Another lap!? It was more of an embracing my inner AVD :rant3: rather than embracing the graciousness of SVDL. Ah well.
  • (S)he-Man, I just looked at your split times -- almost classic how-to! I'm amazed you had that degree of control over a very long course. Congratulations again! Wow! :applaud: VB
  • what a tough swim 25k comfort is important I imagine swimmers would be warmer in a B70 since it holds heat all depends on water temp I think the PRO is faster than the FS II tell us more details about your race plus what the lake, winds and waves were like Ande, thank you. Only a couple of people wore the B70. The number #2 finisher had one on but he had some rough chafing going on. I opted for a FSII - comfort over buoyancy. I think I made the right choice as my core was fine for the entire swim. One tiny chafe mark. I was pretty cool temp-wise in a silver one. I heard that once your core goes, you are toast! Hence, the great thing about the B70. But, our coach makes us do hundreds of crunches, so no worries.
  • Many thanks. If I took 1 minutes rests every 1500 it would be much better as that is all that is required for sensation to return to my lower arm and hand. My coach doesn't see anything wrong, beats me. Thanks for asking. Maybe I just need to be hooked up to the rack and have everything pulled out a bit. I do have a chiro but haven't been to him since he cured my knee issues and that was before I went on a 10 month distance bender and this issue became more annoying. GeeK: Went to my chiro today for some shoulder maintenance and I asked him about your issue. He immediately said "coracobrachialis." Haven't googled it, but my understanding is that it is basically a nerve entrapment somewhere on the nerve pathway from neck down the arm. It would cause the "going to sleep" sensation in your forearms and hands. ART woul definitely help, although could be painful! Sounds fixable! Good luck!
  • Many thanks, Fort. I'm gonna look into this further.
  • Maybe Geek is just laying on that hand for too long before using it? :lmao: l'étranger

Glider, your wife (my chiro) is a saint and miracle worker. I told her that there was NO WAY I could have done that swim had I not started seeing her last year! 'Course, I don't need to tell you how amazing she is! Still working on getting some info for Geek! Thanks Billy. I too got, "What does 25K mean?" Quite a few people are not familiar with kilometers! Allen, I think that swim was the last prerequisite for becoming beast. Sigh. Stud, I have to admit, I'm still a cream puff at heart. Unlike you, I cannot swim with pain! That must be why they call you Stud! Paul, thank you. Very nice of you to say that. After that ghastly swim, I need no further cajoling to rejoin with the sprinters!
