The curtain for Gary Hall Jr????!!!
No way, he has the Race Club, and what he should do is go to Master Nationals and really smash the Masters 30-34 WR. That could be good for his business. If he keeps training, who knows, he could go a best at 41 like Torres...
The men's 50 free final, like the 100, was ridiculously competitive. its the curtain call for Gary Hall, Jr. You can't say he didn't lay it all out there, what guts that guy has.

Oh boy, I can only imagine what kind of worms will crawl from this can.
Lets all knock these great swimmers, they all deserve the abuse. Why??? - they did not come first or second. At least they were there and tried their best, I did not see any of the nay sayers there.
Andrea (and I'm not saying she's good) is much better than Jim Gray, NBC's former poolside/trackside guy.
I think they're both pretty bad, but for some reason Kramer seems a little worse than Gray, IMO. The whole coverage team (Rowdy, Kramer, even Master of Ceremonies Naber) have all been bad.
I saw that too - so sad. She has always been one of my favorites. I really thought she'd find a way to sneak onto this team. Great career for her hopefully she'll take a break and come back and swim masters!
The only way to sneak onto the team is to be 1 or 2 in individual events or get a spot on a relay.
I've enjoyed Hall's poolside shtick in the past, but for some reason, it looked kind of silly last night.
He'll be back in some shape or form down the road.
I thought it was a bit silly for a guy his age. I had the same conversation with family members that gobears had. lol
Anyone notice Jessica Hardy's stroke in the 50 free? She's changed it. It looks much more windmill-y, more like Nystrand. She seemed to be the only one in the semi-finals that swam that way. She's got loads of raw speed.
Jessica seemed to be slapping water if she could smooth her stroke a little she could be faster.
I dunno, George. I know that's the conventional wisdom. But that style generates a lot of propulsion. If she went for smooth, she might just be slower. Can't knock her short-lived AR. Hope she does well tonight.
I'm all for personality but Hall's isn't it for me. I don't think he deserves to even talk about being the Godfather of swimming.
Sprinters are different. These antics are just his way of getting up. I almost wonder if they are a burden at this point: everyone expects something outlandish, it almost seems like it would be a distraction to have to come up with something.
If he had not done anything, everyone would wonder what his problem was, if his heart was really in it.
Still, didn't he do a PR? Not enough to make the team but a fine swim.
I have to say, I agree with Rowdy that he should have trained for the 100 as well. Seemed to work for Dara...
I am rooting for Vendt tonight. I hope that he can breakthrough at Beijing. He would do amazingly well in the 400 IM at the last two Olympics, then seem to fall apart of the 1500 final.

It's the first day of an eight day meet vs. the last. With pretty much "just" the 1500 to focus on he should be okay - hard to taper for both. He is also is swimming free so much better than he was 4 years ago. I would LOVE to see him win the gold in Beijing.
