Women I am very surprised that did not make the team:
Tara Kirk
Dana Vollmer
Amanda Weir - after her performance in 06
Kara Lynn Joyce - she's still got a shot in the 50 though
Whitney Myers
Kaitlin Sandeno
I cannot believe all of these incredibly talented girls that have rocked in the last three years missed out ... what a brutal sport.
I'm not that surprised they didn't made it. Maybe Kirk. It's all about who's swimming fast right now. Besides, it's nice to have some new Olympians like Hardy and Beisel.
Love Lochte. Wish he'd wear a full body suit.
The men's 50 free final, like the 100, was ridiculously competitive. I'm glad Jones has his relay berth, but its the curtain call for Gary Hall, Jr. You can't say he didn't lay it all out there, what guts that guy has.
I don't see the women's sprint events being nearly as competitive. I'll probably get in trouble for saying that.

Not that I'm surprised that Arianna Kukors didn't make it, I'm just sad for her as to how it happened.
If I could just have a little bit of the courage of Ryan Lochte. His lips looked blue at the end of his IM swim. Amazing.
*** Ok, is that something going on between Katie Hoff and her coach! Just wondering!
Can you explain what you mean by this question? Was there something on the broadcast that I missed??

There is a video of Kaitlin Sandeno calling it quits on FloSwimming. Really quite sad to watch. She's always been one of my favorite athletes on the womens side. Still is actually.

Isn't he an amazing athlete? Not just to swim fast with Peirsol and Phelps, but to do so with a 1/2 hour break in between. :notworthy:
And Dara, swimming with the sharks and winning. Awesome.
I don't think that they are getting their money's worth sponsoring a guy who is going to the Olympics in a relay.
Well, there was the silver medal in the 50 and gold in the relay at Worlds. And he was on that WR setting relay. And he set the AR in prelims with a time that would have got him on the team if he swam it in finals. And his work on reducing drowning rates among visible minorities is pretty good PR. And he does a pretty good interview. I'm sure Nike would have liked him to get on the team in the 50free, but I doubt they're regretting signing him.
On the other hand I think he set the AR in a Speedo suit.

Both events were the highlight of the broadcast.
Lochte gave such a strong effort. When he's better rested, it's going to be a dog fight to the finish.
And Torres is so amazingly strong. On those last 20 meters you can actually see her build up momentum into the finish.
If she had Natalie's turn, who knows how fast she'd be?
