The Fall of Auburn

The women's team swims lights out at conferance and craters at NCAA's now the men are in a battle to finish 4th... No one ever revealed the entire story behind Marsh's departure...interesting that Quick was brought in mid-season...takes the rains...and now we see the results...so...one more year or is he gone after this season?

Evidence? People want evidence-direct or circumstantial? Marsh was taking a couple of swimmers to a World Cup meet, swimming them and then taking them off his roster and out of school but through a loop hole in the rules for "other" sports, still having these swimmers available for dual, conference and NCAAs! (Actual direct evidence) He did it in Long Island! If a coach will do this-what else will he or she do? To win? Look up David Maras and his teammate as two swimmers who this was done with in either 06 or 07 in Long Island, not Europe/overseas for the intent of the rule! He leaves the Plains where he was making with camps amounts exceeding $200K and goes to a Club program where USS has to subsidize his salary to the tune of $100K in order for him to earn a comparatible amount. (Direct evidence) And, the Swimming Excellence Center has done nothing yet-in fairness, give him a chance. (Direct evidence) In previous years, Auburn had more than the maximum number of swimmers (20+) capable of scoring at NCAAs on 9.9 scholarships-how? How were the foreign swimmers handled? Paid? Where were these athletes housed? Was it subsidized? Do people not like "rumors" or the "uncomfortable questions" being raised on this list? I think the real questions have answers that appear "self explanatory" and the reality is only altered through the lense that one views the evidence. I would trust that on forums like this, individuals would be tolerant of opinions they may not agree with, just as in my opinion, Coach Marsh had a very graceful exit, regardless of what the reason or reasons were.

where USS has to subsidize his salary to the tune of $100K in order for him to earn a comparatible amount. how do you know this? I would assume he is getting paid $100K from US swimming for his duties. As I mentioned before, if the team is bringing in $3M peryear in dues, where is that money going? I read an article on Novaquatics. That is where I got those figures on Salo. He owned the team, though. Not suggesting anything, just thinking outloud...

Historically, college coaches that place in the top 3 at the NCAAs hold on to their jobs until for whatever reason, they and management "find a mutual" solution and leave. College coaches at the top of their game rarely.... if ever.... give up their job to go back to the ranks of US swimming where they had to earned their credentials. Davids departure is uncharacteristic to say the least.

When he negotiated his contract the year prior to his leaving....according to the one article....he was going to make $160K..... A little different from Tuberville, who they say was making about $2.5 mil...and with Marsh being one of, if not the best coach in the NCAA swimming crowd....it just shows the difference in what sports colleges consider more important. You think Tuberville would be making $160K after winning that many NCAAs in his career? I can't add anything at all concerning Marsh and his move. But do you really think comparing the salary of Marsh to Tuberville is remotely relevent? I love swimming in all forms. I enjoy college football. Set aside for a second the financial size of college football. A Division 1 head football coach supervises over 100 athletes. Probably a dozen assistant coaches. Recruits 25 players per year. Speaks publicly dozens of times a year. May negotiate big contracts with other schools, equipment suppliers, etc. Based purely on scope of job - a college football coach is worth far more salary than a college swimming coach. I think many are paid obscene amounts of money. I have a general problem with the arms race nature of big time football. But that's happening because of money. And everyone knows that college football is BIG money. And college swimming is not.
  • I feel no guilt in not posting under my real name. Everyone knows who I am anyway except maybe Carlos. :thhbbb: My anonymity on this forum is more like a running joke. It started on other sites where my identity was known but no one would ever remember, and would refer to me as "that guy who said before that...." Anyway with talk of threats against forum members (which must have happened before I joined and/or in private messages because I haven't seen it happen), I see no reason to change course. Tell you what, next time I race one of you, I'll make an effort to introduce myself. :Lurking:

Should we all comment on Geek's new avatar now? I see some deep man love coming his way from Stud. I immediately noticed the new avatar. Should it go in the "Hottest Male Olympians" thread? It's becoming apparent that Geek and I are long-lost soulmates, seeing how we have a shared hatred for "Freebird" and the Eagles....
