Women's Locker Room

Here's a thread for the ladies to discuss anything that relates to women and swimming. For example, feel free to discuss how disgustingly ugly fastskins are, how the "curse" can kill a meet, how suits don't fit, how swimming wrecks your hair, how hormones unhinge you, etc.

Same here. I also do a full plee (ple-a from ballet) to get it all the way up there. It seems to help a bit. I do this too - along with my own version of the John Cleese Silly Walk.

:D Ever since we were in London, my husband and I have been saying this for all sorts of things! I will never forget that nice recorded voice telling us to "mind the gap", as we stepped into the train... You clearly need this then: www.bbcamericashop.com/.../mind-the-gap-doormat-15185.html

Hi, I am reviving this thread to talk --to RANT--about swim women's suits. As in, Why do they have to be so unflattering? I recently ordered a cheap poly clearance suit for workouts and it "FIT", but it looked terrible on me. Especially in back. Those super hi-cut legs are so 1980's!!! I am not an overly modest person to say the least, and don't mind the extra skin showing; it's just that in principle I don't like to wear things that make me look bad. I modelled this new poly suit for my family and they all said I actually look better naked.:lolup: That was me in the Aquablade. I looked terrible and I'm actually OK with normal high-cut suits! So for racing I bought a kneeskin. There are both medium and high-cut practice suits out there for us ladies, as well as the fitness ones you describe. I bought a TYR grab-bag endurance one that came with a medium leg, which is actually lower than I expected, but not a super-low boy-cut leg. It's fine for practice and sounds like it might be more what you're after rather than getting an "old-lady " type of one.

I modelled this new poly suit for my family and they all said I actually look better naked. My husband urged me to send it back and said to spend more money, that it wasn't worth it to save $5 to $15 to go around for the next few months in a suit that makes my butt look so bad. On a lark, I checked out the "fitness" suits online. It's just for a practice suit, so it doesn't need to be FAST, just not something that slows me down... It looks like some of these "fitness" suits could be what I am looking for. Appearance and fit-wise it's hard to tell for sure as they have them modelled on plus-sized gals with super big legs. I felt very confused about what size to get--I went ahead and ordered 2 sizes bigger. www.swimoutlet.com/.../16787.htm Can anyone tell me, is it faster to have high cut legs? Will this "fitness" suit slow down my repeat times? sigh- I really wish they made a good one piece practice suit with a boycut leg. That would be so hot! End of rant. I personally don't have a problem with the high cut legs. I just pull them down a bit when I pull on the suit. I swim with teens and they pull them up. It's easy to adjust to your preference. The difference being that my suit is lycra and easy to adjust. The fitness suit that you linked to has a soft cup bra in it. That will certainly slow you down in practice.

If I were looking for a female tough wearing suit for training I would suggest a waterpolo suit with a zipper. They take the gaff and are made to last. Of course they are not FINA approved for racing.
  • Try these www.eqswimwear.com/10Browse.asp Her suits are awesome. They last a long time and fit great.

  • Suzy, I've seen women at my pool wear a regular women's suit and then wear a men's jammer as well. The teen girls I swim with seem to let more cheek show than I do. I pull mine down a bit more. The suits don't always stay down but then again. I'm in the water to work out, not to worry about how I look :D

You're right, that soft cup bra isn't going to help. !!! couldbebetterfly, that TYR sounds like a good compromise. Hopefully I can get a grab bag or on sale. I don't MIND the hi-legs exactly. It's just that I have a fairly nice behind for a woman my age, and the angle those suits cut across put it at a complete disadvantage. Different bodies look best in different styles, and that style puts me at my worst. Last summer for "fun" swimming I had a cute boy-leg suit that was perfect for me, and the effect it seemed to cause on males was legendary.
