Women's Locker Room

Here's a thread for the ladies to discuss anything that relates to women and swimming. For example, feel free to discuss how disgustingly ugly fastskins are, how the "curse" can kill a meet, how suits don't fit, how swimming wrecks your hair, how hormones unhinge you, etc.

This is why I started making my suits. Apart from the fact that I've always been too pear shaped to fit anything off the rack - even when I was thin. It's always annoyed me that practice suits only ever come in the high-cut style.
  • Hi, I am reviving this thread to talk --to RANT--about swim women's suits. As in, Why do they have to be so unflattering? End of rant. I just got a grab bag suit and the design has circles and horizontal lines. I suppose that's why it was overstock, but who thought that would be anything but unflattering in size 36?
  • Hi Swimshark!!! Do these suits fit similar to TYR or Speedo? I would like to try something different; these are cool! Hi Bobinator :) I have found they fit me the same size as Speedo. The owner is a masters swimmer in Portland, OR and does a good job of making sure her suits fit all types of bodies and will last as well.

  • Thanks Swimshark! I think I'll try one! Enjoy. Ellen really makes a great suit.
  • awful quiet lately say it isn't so OK, I'll speak up! Hey, gals, have any of you noticed your hair thinning out from swimming? I know thinning hair is one of those things that can happen as I approach 50, however, it started thinning gradually right after I got back into swimming, two years ago. I wear the freebie latex caps we got at Nationals, because my silicone cap is too hot to wear for training in our 84 degree pool. And, I don't want to go without a cap, because my goggles don't stay on as well without a cap. (Then, there are the pool chemicals...) I'm just wondering if the cap is causing the problem. Or, is it just my, uhhh, advancing age? Cheers, ladies! :cheerleader: P.S. Yes, I shampoo and condition my hair with good-quality products after I swim. Before I swim, I saturate my hair with fresh water, before putting on my cap.

It's most definitely related to you approaching official "old fart" status!! :cane: Just kidding!! :D Personally, I haven't seen any change in the thickness of my hair due to chlorine exposure. The only side effect I've noticed is that it tends to lighten my hair.
  • Hair loss is a symptom of hypothyroidism and low estrogen levels, which can also occur at the lucky geezer age. May want to get your hormones checked! I had them checked at my last physical (in July), and I haven't become quite the geezer yet! :D
  • I thought I might mention my hair is very lovely. No end damage and find the #1 or #2 clippers have me looking great. WooHOOO! You go George!
