Women's Locker Room

Here's a thread for the ladies to discuss anything that relates to women and swimming. For example, feel free to discuss how disgustingly ugly fastskins are, how the "curse" can kill a meet, how suits don't fit, how swimming wrecks your hair, how hormones unhinge you, etc.
  • Funny the differences in the generations. I went on a trip with my grandmother at 13 and we shared a hotel room. When I went into the bathroom to change, my grandmother gave me a big lecture about being too modest. She considered extreme modesty a character flaw. My other grandmother thought I wore too much make-up and told me that only the very insecure felt the need to wear heavy make-up. Their generation went through the Depression and WW II, so guess they figured out there were more important things to worry about.

My daughter gives me a high five when I bother and lectures me on skin care. Other than being a lipstick/lipgloss addict, it's a big day when I put on mascara. Perhaps this must be what comes from not working in an office? Are any other women bummed about the FINA tech suit ruling?
  • Been too quiet lately, what's going on in there? any good gossip? Ande

Definitely comes from not working in an office everyday. I have to teach on MW, so these days I actually have to put some on or I might scare somebody. On the other days and after class? I think the teachers at son's school have yet to see me in anything but workout attire and sans make-up when I pick him up at school. Most already think I'm a chronic workout freak, so wouldn't want to change the impression. I've seen some young swimmers (teenaged girls) pretty made up at meets. I confess as a teenager, I even used to do it myself. That changed in college because the rest of the team was not going to wait on you to put on your make-up! Getting something to eat was the priority!

As many smilies as this forum has available, there are none sufficient to express my dismay at the post above. I understand immodesty of course, but beyond a certain point it becomes exhibitionism. D=

When I first started swimming (at 33), I was really modest and tried to get changed without anyone seeing. After about a week I realised nobody cared and I couldn't be bothered going to great lengths to hide a bit of cellulite. Anyway, it makes no sense at all if you're a swimmer and everyone sees you in your swimsuit. I work at the front desk of a gym, and recently commented to one of the male housekeeping staff that the only men who complain when the hair driers aren't working is the bald ones. Needless to say I was enlightened as to the other uses the driers are put to in the men's room......ugh

Are any other women bummed about the FINA tech suit ruling? Very. I had to change my avatar's suit to a kneeskin. =\ Besides, I'm 6'4" tall with a 38" inseam. "Kneeskins" go to about mid-thigh on me. I really wish it were legal to cut my legskins short and hem them just above the knee.
  • Are any other women bummed about the FINA tech suit ruling? I'm only bummed because I like my zipper. I don't wear a legskin so that part doesn't bother me but I have an issue with a bubble of water forming if the back of the suit doesn't go all the way up. So no zipper = water going in a drag for me. :badday: My alternative is that skimpy one I was trying out at warm-ups on Sunday. But then I'd need to have lipo on the hips! As for gross in the locker room. There are 2 60+ year old women who swim for about 15 min in the mornings and then get in the sauna which is in the locker room. They get completely naked in said sauna and sit down. Imagine the stuff they are spreading in there :afraid:
  • There's being overly-modest in the locker room and then there's going a bit too far in the opposite direction. I thought my mom was going to have to go into therapy after 98 Nationals and the sight of the naked lady with one leg up on the sink counter shaving her legs...
  • what happened today in the locker room any great gossip ande
