Pre and Post swim skin lotion / shower gel

Hi - I'm new to swimming. Can anyone recommend a post swim skin lotion and / or shower gel brand that both helps remove chlorine and helps with dry skin? Also - I saw someone using a pre-swim lotion that is supposed to help fend off the chlorine, but I wasn't quick enough to ask him what it was. General google searches haven't yielded any results. Anyone know what this is and where to get it? Thanks very much.

I'm perfectly relaxed. I just don't like it when people assume I'm a liar or just wrong. Geez..yeah, you sound relaxed.

It's hard to determine tone on the internet. The only thing that gets me riled up is my crappy ass computer randomly deciding to be stupid. I don't get all worked up over internet posts by people I don't know, lol.
  • No anti-chlorine abilities but post workout I use Curel. It's the only lotion I've found that I can put on my face without burning or other side effects. I have very dry skin. In fact, when I don't use the Curel, the skin on my face will turn a flaky, dry white color.
  • I'm still waiting for this stink. I swim 6-7 days a week, and I don't smell at all. All I do is take a shower when I get home. Go for a run or just lick your skin. I don't notice that I smell like chlorine until I sweat. If you are swimming 6-7 days a week, I hate to break this to you, but you smell like chlorine. Citrus smells help cut the chlorine smell. Loreal has a great shampoo - kids swim and sport. It's cheap and in a little blue bottle with an orange flip top. Also adding baking soda to your regular shampoo helps get the acidity of the chlorine out and helps mositurize your hair (chemists help me if I got that wrong). I bust out a deep conditioner about twice a week, too. I've uses tons of different lotions the best being Oil of Olay's Quench therapy. I also try to use baby oil in the shower (after I am all clean). Slather it all over then rinse it off in luke warm water and pat dry.

Thanks Lump! Oh yeah that was my assumption exactly ... :shakeshead: I'm glad your girlfriend hasn't noticed you smelling like chlorine that certainly means you wouldn't if you licked your skin :dunno: I am not assuming you are a liar or wrong I just don't know anyone else that swims that much that doesn't at least have a faint chlorine odor if they start sweating or lick their skin. Maybe your pool composition or body chemistry make it so you don't. Most people on here are very nice and friendly ... don't assume they are :dedhorse: Well, if you weren't assuming I was wrong, then I apologize. However, when I say I don't smell like chlorine, and you respond with "if you swim 6-7 days a week, guess what, you smell like chlorine" it's hard to take it any other way. I literally just licked my skin after walking 10 minutes in the sun in a black t-shirt and jeans, and nothing. So, I guess my skin or the two pools I swim in are different than yours. By the way, if I come off as abrasive or something, don't take it that way. It might just be the phrasing I use when I type, but it's very rare that I'm even mildly upset on an internet forum.

  • I've started using the Olay Shower Lotion with Shea Butter. I still use Curel or a good lotion after drying off, but this stuff helps a lot. I sometimes use hair conditioner as a moisturizer in the shower too. It works basically the same way as the Shower Lotion.
  • Hi - I'm new to swimming. Can anyone recommend a post swim skin lotion and / or shower gel brand that both helps remove chlorine and helps with dry skin? Shower: Body Shop Shea Body Scrub Lotion: Body Shop Shea Body Butter My wife (who is a runner, not a swimmer) thinks these leave your skin too oily as they're designed for very dry skin, but after swimming for >60 minutes outside in Arizona, they do a very good job. Plus, they are very low scent, so you don't smell like a coconut or papaya walking into work after an AM swim.

Thanks for the attitude. I smell like chlorine until I take a shower, but I'm nice and pretty after. My girlfriend has a sensitive nose, and she's never said anything. Either she's mysteriously being nice about it--and I don't know why she'd refrain from telling me I smell like chlorine, but not when my breath makes her want to vomit after I eat a banana--or she doesn't smell it, along with everyone else I'm around.
