Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot:
If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
My goal..... is to have guns like these for masters nationals in May.
I'll need them to take down the Sasquatch Evil Smith.
John Smith
Given the fact that you just swam in one of your kids meets (I like that it was a very successful emabarassment to them) and went 21.8, 47.7 unrested and at altitude makes you the odds on "favorite" my friend....but the reality is you won't have me next to you to run you over the last 5 yards in the 100 on Sunday!
Besides...as Ramen Noodles pointed out earlier I'll just assume your current and impending success comes from the chemistry you've carried on with since your age group swim days...and Eddie is certainly known as a coach to "push the limits" with his "diet" experimintation (and recruiting of foreign swimmers)...so your guilty my jackrabbit evil (unrelated) twin!
Sorry about the mis-spell, geek, I blame it all on forum short-hand. I also married a Duke alum, which acts in insidious ways. Fortunately I've brainwashed -- er, taught -- our son to root for the proper team.
You continue to upset me - we all know it's dook. Good job on your kids, mine root for the Iraqi insurgents before they will root for the dookies.
Foreign swimmgers - ka ching, Smith cashing in on all his pet peeves in one single thread.
It's not sad that you are in that camp, rather, it's sad that sports in general are in such a state of affairs as to lead you into that camp in the first place.
I guess I'm existential enough not to be horrifically bothered with lack of complete certainty. I plan on enjoying the Trials and Olympics. I will admit that I didn't watch nearly as much of the Tour de France this year though.
Enjoy them all, even the Tour De France. Forget about who uses drugs and who does not. We have watched drug users in the past and we have thought how great they are then found out some had crossed the line. There are probably many more who have crossed the line and it has never been mentioned. So enjoy what you see today and if proof positive proves they were druggies so what? They may have won there races because their drug supplier had better stuff.
Trust me, no one has missed this point.
Actually, I overlooked that comment because I thought he was joking. No way George, that won't solve this issue.
I competed with all kinds of drug users and did not care they are nearly all dead now and never made it past 55 years of age. I do look at the obits. There are a couple still hanging on. One is even 74 but in really bad health.
As I said before I was basically clean. I used 1 steroid pill in 1955 prescribed by a Doctor until I researched what it was. I used Dexadrine in 1963 which was prescribed to me by a Doctor in a couple of races it was legal in those days. I quit using it it made me very angry.
I used large doses of caffien to stay awake. But quit using that after a few races. I used 2 drops of lugols solution of Iodine in my glucose tang drink for energy. They say lugols solution of iodine activates the thyroid and helps with endurence. I used it for a week before two races.
None of these were considered illegal when I raced.

Dexadrine from where we derive "Dexy's Midnight Runners," famed Northern Irish soul band...best known (and probably only known) in the US for "Come on Eileen."
It was basically the rave pill of the 60's.
