Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot:
If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
I for one have no intention of giving up my opinions or freedom of speech. This sounds very Big Brother to me. And it's inaccurate. Doubt has already been raised. Most think she's clean and her career is in hyperdrive and is in no way "sullied."Well said. I hope no one on here ever questions the actions or intentions of their doctor or dentist or boss. When will we learn that blind acceptance and obedience is far superior to questioning and testing things? :shakeshead:
(Quite convenient to have two alma mater: I can be a Gator during football season and a Tarheel during basketball season. That's gotta be worth a dancing banana.)
C'mon man, it's Tar Heel, good grief!
Dexadrine from where we derive "Dexy's Midnight Runners," famed Northern Irish soul band...best known (and probably only known) in the US for "Come on Eileen."
It was basically the rave pill of the 60's.
The bad thing about the written word is that it is hard to convey sarcasm unless you're really creative. And I'm not so smart or creative, so my comment about mom may have been taken out of context. Any time you can insert a Dexy's Midnight Runners reference into a thread such as this, you must be creative. So I'm appointing Stud to the roll of TJ's personal sarcasm advisor!
Hah, I just feel like getting way off topic and the comment about jock itch is lingering in my head as I type. I agree with the fact that it's sad that the win-at-all-costs ways of sports today have caused people to have such a questioning attitude. Like I said earlier, I just enjoy watching elite level swimmers work their magic. I hope that Dara is the real deal and will be disappointed if she isn't, but I probably won't be too surprised!

In that pansy conference? Is it even possible for someone outside the SEC to have a stellar football season? You may not have caught my "eek" face at the end of that sentence. Our "spectacular" season saw us take perhaps the most frightening nose-dive in DI football history. Started the season 5-0 with lots of hype (and a win over the SEC's Vols) and proceeded to suck up the season with a 7-6 record playing our Pac-10 foes. It was really ugly... Not that we aren't used to ugly football at Cal, we just haven't seen as much in the last few seasons.
Yea, it is possible to have a good season outside of the SEC. Just an undefeated season in any other conference isn't as impressive.
Face it, the best overall football and swimming are in the SEC. The best overall basketball may very well be the ACC.
Old Slow University, I mean Ohio State, would certainly support the SEC being the best football conferencein the nation.
Heaven help us! You mean you have more that we haven't heard already.
Absolutely, don't you? We haven't even discussed religion or politics or abortion. :duel:
Moreover, I've only expressed one opinion on this particular thread and it was not disrespectful by any measure.
Um, and I'm far from paranoid. I'm just not a fan of either of your definitions of freedom of speech -- suppressing what you think to be nice or uneducated slathering. But people certainly have the right to do either. Suppressing freedom of thought or speech is rarely a good idea.
Heaven help us! You mean you have more that we haven't heard already.
No need to get paranoid. I was just suggesting we afford others a certain level of respect and realise that Freedom of speech also entails a certain level of responsibility and is not just a case of slathering your opinions all over the internet.
Syd with all due respect the discussion that is taking place here in my opinion has been very responsible.
As I chided George I will also challenge you and anyone else here that seems to think that just because some of us have our doubts...and have detailed the specifics of why...are somehow "anti-Dara" or "making accusations" or in the worst case being libelous.
Rather than post such vague statements about how sharing ones opinons or beliefs is somehow on the edge of doing damage....quote the person you think is close or has crossed a line and call them out.
I'll continue to go through my life with a touch of skepticism for anything that seems out of the realm of reality/possiblity...I don't see myself as a negative person for doing so and in the case of Dara was one of the first to say how incredible her swims were....same with Marion, same with Landis, same with Johnson, same with Bonds, etc. etc. etc.
Anyone that wants to be a "cool-aid" drinker and assume that everything in the world is as it seems and all are good that is your choice...but I take offense when as Fort and Bear pointed out my thoughts, opinions and beliefs are threataned by BS threats of lawsuits and possibl damaging someones "legend".
The best overall basketball may very well be the ACC.
"May very well be?" Puh-leeze! A few down years, but we have to look at long-term trends here. (I always get a good laugh over the Big Ten-ACC "challenge." Not the word I would use to describe the annual B10 stomping that occurs.)
Sorry about the mis-spell, geek, I blame it all on forum short-hand. I also married a Duke alum, which acts in insidious ways. Fortunately I've brainwashed -- er, taught -- our son to root for the proper team.
Chris,
You missed a group....
-- Those who presume DT clean and haven't been convinced otherwise.
-- Those who think that such performances are near-impossible for a 40-year-old without PEDs
-- Those who view almost all extraordinary athletic performances with suspicion because of the prevalence of PEDs in modern athletics.
-- and Those who view some extraordinary athletic performances with suspicion given empirical and historical evidence as compared to peers as potentially indicative of using PEDs.
