Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot:
If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
Do you have any proof other than a couple of pictures that prove Dara is other than a beautiful well conditioned athlete. Is she doing anything illegal?
I guess the whole discussion is not valid.
Do you have any proof that she, or Clemmons, or Marion aren't? The point is and has been testing is way behind the cheaters and in my opinion if an athlete does something never seen or done before than its inherant in us to ask and question.
I'm all for innocent until proven guilty and although I have serious doubts about her (as I did with Bonds) I'm not willing to call her a cheater. But the reality is cheating in sports is happening a LOT at all levels. So we either question and test everyone or we simply stop testing all together and let anyone use anything they want....or offer 2 divisions I guess and go the way of "open" vs. "natural" bodybuilding.
So, geochuck, here is your argument in a nutshell - universally trust the athlete, period. Those of us that live on planet Earth have yet to see a single elite athlete do this beyond 35, much less 40. The ones that have done it have been proven dopers. We are not talking about just competing here. We are talking about winning at the highest elite level. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
I feel like a dupe here because a while back I said Roger Clemens was an example of doing it with hard work beyond 40. So much for that example.
I actually appreciate it when someone calls me out for talking out my :mooning:. I do not know much about law. My original point was that there was at least some evidence to implicate both Clemens and Jones. Whether McNamee is lying will be up to someone else to determine and Jones was implicated by association with a coach known for doping. There has been no evidence of any sort to implicate Torres!
Just conjecture...let's see if I got that right...
Interesting that I'm typing this in a hotel room in Vegas with FOX running a story about that found that as many as 8% of high school girls are taking steroids...
Why are you telling us this? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas Paul!!
;)
Occasionally we are even forced to import our pills from the UK.
I didn't say that everyone approved of that way, or that it was any better there. Americana as an export has done phenomenally well in the UK.
...Aren't we forgetting here that she was pregnant recently? Should we test her baby for roids?
Back in the 80s when I was a running fanatic, there was an article in a running magazine about top level female runners, including Ingrid Christenson (at that time a record holder in the marathon) who did their best times within 2 years of having a baby. No-one was quite sure why, but there were several theories, including one about the effect of pregnancy hormones on flexibility. The effect didn't seem to last much more than two years.
No, that's not true. I just checked our LMSC records in the 200 back
Men 25-29 200 Back 1:53.60 Chris Stevenson 1/1/94
Men 30-34 200 Back 1:54.10 Chris Stevenson 5/21/95
Men 35-39 200 Back 1:55.48 Chris Stevenson 4/1/00
Men 40-44 200 Back 1:53.99 Chris Stevenson 3/9/07
The 25-29 record was done unrested when I was 29, soon after I moved to Virginia -- I'm sure I went faster at some point in the 25-29 age group in another LMSC, but I don't recall ever breaking 1:52 (and definitely not 1:51).
I train a harder and smarter now, and more specifically for swimming; I did much more aerobic cross-training back then and no weight lifting, but I still got in the water pretty regularly.
Hmmm. Come to think of it, that line of bull about better training sounds just like Dara Torres. I'll be sending you a sample in the mail shortly...don't drink it, tutu boy...:drink:
Face it: 40 is the new 20!
What does LMSC stand for? 200 back? that must be yards... ??
