Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot: If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
  • I don't hink it's a big deal. I am pulling lifetime bests at 38 *cough 39 next week cough* it's no big deal to be faster than you were. ;) So we're gonna be in the same age group in 2010? Oh crap.
  • I think drinking soda is the worst thing we can do to our bodies. Yep, sitting at our desks, drinking soda and snarfing Krispie Kreams.
  • Good interview with Carl Foster. Of course you know my favorite part is where he says that "he other reason people retire is that normal life gets in the way. You get a normal life, you get a family. It gets harder to do the kinds of things you need to do to prepare for an elite competition. Where is the time to do the practice?" ;) Disagree though where he says that she is "not as old as 41 in terms of accumulated injuries." Hasn't she had three surgeries because of "accumulated " injuries? I understood that she had two shoulder surgeries and a knee surgery.

I understood that she had two shoulder surgeries and a knee surgery. He is much more of an expert than I, but I am also suspicious of the sports car analogy. Actually, I am suspicious when any expert tries to (over-)simplify. He seems to be saying that -- in terms of longevity -- it is better to train lightly, or not at all, between major competitions and supports this with sports cars and Al Oerter. Interestingly, many posters on this forum actually cite the fact that she has kept herself in top form throughout her life as a reason that she can still compete at the top level. So who's right?
  • W don't like it when one of our own doesn't conform to society's ideal. Wookiee is right, as the above-quote illustrates. The early posts were not exactly raising questions, more like proselytizing. But she's cleaned it up. Off to read the long depressing article.
  • Don't read it that way. Looks like she was trying to explain why women Dara's age were being hard on Dara. Don't see proselytizing there. Looks to me like she was just trying to figure out why women are hard on her. BTW my experience has been that women are harder on each other than we are on them. That was just one example, Rooster. But she is asking questions now and some of the posts were just obvious pot stirring. BTW, my experience and observations are that women are harder on themselves. I'm not a fan of women being b*tchy to other women. Uh, call outs on this forum are commonplace.
  • You ain't been here long have you?... Or has he or she? OK, I read the article. Very interesting that anyone not in the top ten the prior year is an "anomaly." Stem cell injections are almost immediately effective?!

You have a Dara obsession. And the name of this thread is------------. Thank you, Mr. Perry. I was getting disgusted - the poor woman was just raising some valid concerns about Dara. Somebody questioning shouldn't get burned at the stake.
  • Ouch! Got a little hot in here. Sorry for the tone in the earlier posts. I can see how it could have come across. I do appreciate your sticking up for me though Rooster. Why are folks so passionate about this issue (Dara and her performance)?

Valid??? Means well grounded in logic or truth. I do not think it is either.
