in terms of Roger Clemens et al and drugs, I just came across a horrific statistic. 36 percent of MLB players use "spit tobacco"--extremely pernicious and addictive, and as hard to quit as cigarettes.
i wonder what the lost life years/disability rates are for steroids, HGH, and chewing tobacco, respectively.
if steroids grew on a crop that our farming forefathers could grow anywhere in the American climate, I can't help but think that today many of our political elite would be getting greased by the Steroid Lobby.
what a odd odd War on Drugs the US fights! At the risk of upsetting the easily upset, it seems we invest an awful lot of energy in things that don't make a whole lot of difference--and not nearly enough on the things that do.
I certainly don't think steroids are a good thing to be advocating to kids and their athletic roles models. but we'd reduce a whole lot more misery by focusing on legal drugs that create massively more havoc--booze and cigarettes/chew, especially the latter.
It's kind of spending a fortune to prevent deaths by mountain lion while ignoring car crashes.

Point made even more comical by the fact that somehow the likely place you'd find the most steriodal "juicing"-- football-- is given a free pass. I'm sure the congress and the FBI have nothing better to do with our tax dollars with the economy hurting and our country at war and all. Funny you should include that in this thread. If you check what was actually said (versus what was claimed in "opinion" pieces), Gore never said he invented the Internet. Kinda proves the point that enough people state their opinion enough times (without clarifying what is fact and what is impression), the truth can get lost in the shuffle.
