I'm going to be in the DC area (Crystal City), are there any places to swim. I checked the "find a place to swim" here but no help.
Thanx in advance...
Haines Point may be close and the view is pretty, but a yucky pool. But OK for a workout.
Go the Potomac Valley website, www.pvmasters.org, and check the clubs and locations.
I think Curl-Burke also practices at American University in NW DC during the SCY season. Not sure if they do in the summer. Check DC Masters and VMST (Virginia Masters) too.
If you want to venture further into Northern Virginia, I can give you some tips. Julie Oplinger lives fairly near Crystal City, so she probably has the best inside scoop on that area. There are also a lot of rec centers in Northern Virginia that have extensive lap swim hours, if you don't want to swim with a team or want to catch a workout at a time that suits you.

Will you have a car? Hains Point is not the best pool, but it gets the job done. There are some pools in Arlington and Alexandria that may be close if you have a car. PM me if you want to chat about where you'll be, what transportation you have and what time you want to swim. I swim all over the place so hope I can help!

Bill, the ladies of NoVa have got you covered. The PV website is your best bet for info, as Jeff Roddin keeps that pretty up-to-date. There are plenty of places that are metro-accessible too. When are you coming up?

Potomac River? No, that might be illegal! I am sure The Fortress will be here soon and give you advice. She lives close to the area you mentioned. Well, in that general direction, in the Virginia area.

Not far from Cystal City is Haines Point. That is a outdoor 50 meter pool. There is a masters team that practices in the morning there(mon-fri). There used to be a masters team that practiced there in the evenings as well.
If you check www.ymca.net, you can find a number of Y's in the area as well. Some of the Y's have masters teams as well.
Or check this site, www.swimmersguide.com
Thanx for your help. I think I found one, YWCA-NCA. Its not far from the Metro, White House, and my favorite restaurant (Old Ebbets Grill).
That'll be convenient for a workout and dinner.:drink: :groovy: :wine:
Will you be able to stay for a meet or at least a meeting with some NoVA people? I'm about 30 miles west of DC.

Old Ebbets grill is one of the most silly restaurants in DC. go on an adventure and try somehtinfg that isn't so WASPY.
My mom used to go there all the time when she worked at the Nixon White House. As a treat, when I was interning there 6yrs ago, I took her to lunch there on my last day.
My best memory of that restaurant is that my Dad almost got in a fight with a drunk guy at the bar when we were little (like 5 yrs old). The cops had to take that dude out the door in handcuffs.

When I lived in DC I loved swimming in Marie Reed. It still is as lovely as it was in the 80s. Outdoors try Key. There you have the view of Rock Creek.
