Stupid question: where to buy (retail) men's swimming briefs

I have been to Sports Authority and a variety of surf shops and haven't had any luck. A few years ago I bought some at Macy's at the mall, but they were some weird brand... I'd like to find a place that just sells standard Speedo briefs.
  • Go to Kiefer. If you want a store you can walk into, check your local yellow pages for sporting goods stores that specialize in either triathlons or furnishing the local high schools.
  • Might try swimoutlet.com. They seem to have a decent selection as well as earplugs. Probably other online shops as well. Locally, we have an Academy sports and Champs, and they also sell them at the pool where I swim. Unfortunately, we don't have a Macy's nearby, oh well. Good luck.
  • The111, I don't know where you are, but I would bet there may be a local swim or dive shop in your area that would carry these. If you're metro DC, I can think of plenty of places that could help you out.

Add to that: earplugs. Also not at Sports Authority, and I used to get them from Wal-Mart OR Target but right now I can't find them at EITHER.
  • Yeh, I'm definitely looking for brick and mortar stores. I am in Central FL (Orlando)... I would imagine there has to be SOMETHING. Somebody mentioned Champs, I think we have one of those in the mall. Champs falls into the "crap shoot" category someone else mentioned, right up there with ***'s or Sport Mart. You might talk to the coach(es) at your local high school or swim club (there must be tons of swim clubs in Orlando) and ask them where a dedicated shop is nearby. Or touch base with someone at Team Orlando Masters. Skip Montanaro

  • Wow, the Sports Authority, Sports Chalet, and Big 5 here, as well as our specialty swim shops, all sell men's swim stuff (seems like all kinds of stores carry women's speedos). Sports Chalet is a newish store in this area, and usually has a fair amount of stuff (they have pools onsite for scuba training), and has good sales throughout the year. Of course, I usually buy online from Kiefer, since the local places rarely have the exact goggles I like.
  • The only walk-in shops that I've found have been either a Dunham's or an MC Sporting Goods. Limited selection but a few anyway. Not sure if you have them in your locale but you can check it out.
  • Might try swimoutlet.com. They seem to have a decent selection as well as earplugs. Probably other online shops as well. Locally, we have an Academy sports and Champs, and they also sell them at the pool where I swim. Unfortunately, we don't have a Macy's nearby, oh well. Good luck. I had a recent cruddy experience with swimoutlet.com. I ordered two goggles, one leaked and the other one had a strap break as I was getting ready for a race. Obviously, since I had worn them a couple of times they can't be returned. Frustrating.
  • Your best bet is a dedicated swim shop. Generic sporting goods stores may have some competitve swimming gear, but it's a real crap shoot. If there isn't a swim shop near where you live go online and order. As someone else mentioned Kiefer and swimoutlet.com are both good choices.
