...Hearing everyone behind and around the blocks go "Oooooh!" and then chuckle after seeing or even just hearing someone belly flop their dive LOL
  • looking at Muppet's hair ... watching Stud's "grab" start the convos in the warm down pool ... trash talking with teammates ... really f*cking something up and just laughing and smiling about it after.... waving to my little kid in the stands when she comes and telling her after that she is my good luck charm.
  • When I was swimming my 1000 hearing and seeing my teammates jumping up and down and cheering for me. I started laughing in the water and it almost ended badly. But this was first meet I had been to with a team and it was soo cool to have people backing me up. Kyra, it was fun being your timer and watching you race the girl in the adjacent lane. You two swam the entire 1000 stroke for stroke, side by side, neither willing to give an inch. And I stiill think you out touched her at the finish.
  • Hearing kids in the stands yell"Go Mommy"or"Go Daddy"

Seeing an 80+ year old woman switch to backstroke in the middle of her 500 'cause (1) she can, and (2) nothings gonna stop her from finishing her race. :applaud:

The standing ovation for a swimmer who has taken an especially long time to complete an event that obviously was a hugh challenge for them. It's happened at quite a few meets in the 3 years that I've been swimming masters' meets. Almost brings me to tears every time.

Good thread Rich!! When I was swimming my 1000 hearing and seeing my teammates jumping up and down and cheering for me. I started laughing in the water and it almost ended badly. But this was first meet I had been to with a team and it was soo cool to have people backing me up. I saw a man, probably late 60's early 70's, with a brand new Fastskin II (right after they came out) get in and swim 1000 like it was just any other day at the pool. He had no itention of going fast and he was swimming because he loved it. I love seeing that older generation competing. There is a lady on my team who is 85 and a man who just turned 70 and seeing them dive off the blocks and race simply for the joy of it really makes me smile.

watching Stud's "grab" start Hey! Did I bring up your breaststroke? :thhbbb:
  • walking up to swim a relay and wondering what stroke you're doing and how far you're supposed to swim moments before stepping on the blocks ... making "piano falling" jokes ... comparing holes and rips in your faststkins ... ragging on folks sporting the fastskin pro that they didn't get for free like FlyQueen ... watching others swim the 200 fly when you are not and never will ... checking out everyone's snacks ... freaking out when you see a flag and you are swimming backstroke ... noticing how many masters swimmers swear ... the smell of biofreeze in the air ... a nice cup of coffee before the 50 free ... wearing my daughter's swim gear to meets ... comparing "guns" ... meeting forum friends -- the best!
  • Ditto to everything Fort said. And.... Making new friends. Being there for other people's good AND not so good swims. Swimming a masters best time and seeing 4 of your teammates at the end of the lane just as excited as you are. Those teammates that just show up for relays because they want to be a part of the team.

Wait a minute (in Jerry Seinfeld voice) Didn't you just swim the 200 fly? And which "team" are you referring to, you compulsive overtrainer? On a serious note, being there for people's bad swims to cheer them up after is real important!! So when I sob hysterically after my next botched backstroke finish, you better hold my hand. ;) No, wait ... it happens so often, I just laugh. LOL.
