False start! Ouch.

I just read that the men's 200 MR was DQd at Worlds. That race could've given Phelps a record 8th gold medal... bummer. Phelps was very gracious about it. He said, "We came in here as a team, we exit as a team." Sigh. PS Did you see the size of his HANDS! I would like to swim just one race with hands his size, and feet the size of Thorpe's. (Yep, I have puny little paws!)

My comments were a joke for crying out loud! I followed them with a serious piece of advice, contact a moderator via PM. Get a life people...seriously.

I have a life. And I think Rob and Rich do too. Since you have been such a vocal critic of topic content and self-professed moderator before, it's a little difficult to immediately assume you're just joking now. The "PM a moderator" comment also clearly refers to the dispute between Bork and Gull on the closed threads. Give it a rest. Actually I had no such intent and was not even aware that a moderator was involved in that scuffle. For the record, I was once suspended from USMS for some of the things I listed as reasons for thread closure. Not everything I write is an attack on somebody else.

Karen, I think Rob's post was directed at Matt's suggestion not you, as indicated by the quote.

anyone else get a sense of de ja vu?
  • Totally off of my own topic. I concede, we cannot stay on topic. Yahoo, Vicodin is great! I guess I definitely missed out on something about poems... 'Geek, I will always love you. It's just those posts you do. Now, I'm feeling better Spreading the love I hope you do too :smooch: :drink: PS Left work early, had a noon workout (migraine in the middle, Vicodin in mouth, finished workout) went home and had a nap. The planets are again in their proper places- all is well in the universe :p Swimming is a miracle cure sometimes!

Just for the record, I think Lindsay's post re retitling the thread was eminently sensible and hilarious besides (of course, I thought my 'Kitajima Conspiracy' was pretty funny, so go figure). The whole navel-gazing dissection reduces to absurdity; the false start happened, bad result, gracious pickup by Phelps and team mates. On to the Olympics!

No one who is serious to the sport of swimming would EVER deliberately false start when other teammates are relying on that person. First and foremost would be the impact on THEM for causing such a disappointing series of events. Had it been me and my teammates were relying on me and I blew it, it would haunt me for some time but it would NEVER happen again. I guess it's easy to criticize since none of us were at those championships. And size? I wasn't offended by Fanstone; some of us are large, some of us carry more weight, some don't, but if you are FAST, it makes it even more intriguing because it disspells those old myths that thin wins. Who even cares? This goes back to the fact that so many people are sucked into the thin is everything motto. There are and have been many great swimmers who do not fit this profile. And I love it when I destroy people who weigh 50 pounds less than I do. As another poster said: swimming is forgiving to those who are bound by a little more blubber. donna
  • Start a heated debate that involves personal attacks, sexual innuendo, profanity. OR you could just stop reading and posting to the thread. This way you are less likely to be banned from the forum.
  • Um, we're talking about the world record holder here, folks. He is undoubtedly crushed about jumping even by the smallest of margins. His teammates all forgave him the error before they left the pool deck. He may take some extra time to forgive himself. Perhaps we could be a little more forgiving ourselves of him. Unless a majority of you have been in the same boat, under high stress and in a foreign country representing yours, trying to be as fast as possible to show the coaches that you should be on the night relay, despite having lost to Phelps the day before, aching to redeem yourself, even if only in your own eyes, perhaps some of you could be magnanimous enough to say, "gallant try"? Anyone know his split? And even suggesting that his visual physical state has anything to do with anything is just disingenuous and shallow.
