I just read that the men's 200 MR was DQd at Worlds. That race could've given Phelps a record 8th gold medal... bummer.
Phelps was very gracious about it. He said, "We came in here as a team, we exit as a team."
Sigh.
PS Did you see the size of his HANDS! I would like to swim just one race with hands his size, and feet the size of Thorpe's. (Yep, I have puny little paws!)

I would think that the reason the guys pushed their starts was because they did have a legit shot at the WR. It doesn't matter how short-lived the record would have been, it means a lot to break one (and they were going to need huge splits out of everyone to get it).
If there was a team title or something like that at stake, I can see why you would encourage safe starts. But that is not the case. I do not think you can ask a swimmer to go out there and ask him not to do everything he possibly can to have his best possible split. So what if we were a lock to win. Really, it couldn't be more true, it isn't if you win or lose it's how you play the game.
--- Essentially some of you are suggesting that Crocker should have layed down for Phelps' sake.
--- A question to ponder: If Phelps or anyone else for that matter blown it in finals, would be talking about how they cost the prelim guys gold? Probably not.
Rob- I'm not sure, exactly, where that came from. Or why? That just seemed like a crappy thing to say. If you were trying to be funny, I guess I missed it. Between no sleep the last two nights and a funeral wake last night...
OR you could just stop reading and posting to the thread. This way you are less likely to be banned from the forum.
I agree with Rob. (Karen, you may have missed the threads Rob was undoubtedly refering to.) No need for Matt's gratuitous comment whatsoever. Geek's tag team comment was even worse. The so-called St. Valentine's Day massacre was not about "love poems" if HWMNBN had bothered to read them. Virtually all of them were expressing appreciation for the support and encouragement of forum friends. That's much more meaty and on topic than these two baiting-type posts, which seem intended to stir up past acrimony and zing people. Just stick to the swimming straight and narrow, as I believe was your future intent.
On topic, I agree with Michael Heather too, as my prior two SR posts reflect.
Hi,
I am way too exhausted physically and emotionally to try and go back and find out what I might have missed. Today, I probably shouldn't even be on here- it's just a great distraction. :frustrated:
For the record, I didn't think that Rob was trying to bait me. I don't think I've ever met Rob. I just wondered where that came from? Had I done something to him that he was trying to make me feel bad, or was he trying to be funny? I don't know, that's why I asked. Apparently, I missed something?
Anyway, my original question was how to close a thread. I asked seriously, because I didn't really want to be the one responsible for starting a thread that called WR holders "fat", etc. The thread is now completely off topic and I thought it might be a good time to close it.
That was all.
My comments were a joke for crying out loud! I followed them with a serious piece of advice, contact a moderator via PM. Get a life people...seriously.
I have a life. And I think Rob and Rich do too. Since you have been such a vocal critic of topic content and self-professed moderator before, it's a little difficult to immediately assume you're just joking now. The "PM a moderator" comment also clearly refers to the dispute between Bork and Gull on the closed threads. Give it a rest.

Sheesh, people are a little testy today. Rob's post seemed pretty matter-of-fact to me. The best way to let a thread die is to let it die. The "banned from the forum" bit was only a response to Matt's post about using personal attacks, etc.
Sheesh, people are a little testy today.
That's why there's really no need to resuscitate past acrimony with, for example, references to so-called "love poems" or other drivel.

Knelson is right. I'm not feeling any love on the forum today. Might I suggest the waring parties play all nicey mcnice and compose a few lines of sweet prose to each other. For me, it's that kind of aquatic love that sets this place apart.

Can't wait for your first poem! Just no references to diamond calves please.
Dan is your last name Hoff? Are you related to Katie? If so, please tell her congratulations!
I WISH I had some of the Katie Hoff swimming DNA in my body! I'd be a much better swimmer than I am today. I'm a big fan or hers since she is an IMer like me. But my last name is not Hoff.....
